Hi there, could you tell me if it is the PFOA in non stick coatings that cause parrots to die of poisoning, or is it another chemical?

I'm getting my kitchen up to standard before Morpheus arrives.:grey:

I only know of PTFE as the dangerous chemical, but from what I know you're safe buying stainless steel, adonised and ceramic pots/pans. I love my ceramic pan!

Sorry I don't know about PFOA (unless they're secretly the same thing)

I love ceramic too :D My mom has a bunch of ceramic dutch ovens and it's so easy to clean them.

Actually, PFOA is used in the manufacture of Teflon. which contains PTFE and when they offgas, a bird's air sacs will blister, causing a painful death. Any of the perfluorinated acids used in manufacturing and virtually any of the fluorocarbons used as propellants in aerosol cans or in other applications should be considered toxic/deadly to companion birds.....

Thankyou so much, my kids and I were discussing what a hidden opportunity bringing Morpheus home is because we can get really aware and use healthy cleaning systems from now on. I am learning so much on a daily basis...it's amazing! I really enjoy beng part of this forum...you folks are so generous with your experiences
