Should I buy a male or a female?

As some of you may know, I'm looking to get an African Grey as my first bird sometime this year in late summer/early fall. I'm now wondering which gender I should choose. Are there many physical differences as far as looks/size between males and females? Most importantly, are there many differences in temperament between males and females? I know this will greatly vary between individual birds, but if there's anything that is a general rule of thumb between males and females I would love to hear about it. Thanks!

I don't believe there are any differences in male in female as far as characteristics go. There is some disput in the color of genders manly light or dark grey in congos, but I see that this is probably more sub species related. I think ether one is great and you'd be fine going ether direction:). Mine was female and I loved her, but I've meet many DNA tested makes and loved them as well. Like you said it is bird to bird really.

Thanks for the reply. I should also ask, if anyone knows of any reputable breeders in the Michigan area (specifically the Kalamazoo area) I would love to hear about them. I feel that finding a good breeder is key and my fear is that I won't be able to find one in my area, and I don't really want to buy a baby that I haven't seen in person and have it shipped.
