How many almonds and various nuts(not peanuts) should a African gray get in it's diet? Kenji loves nuts, but I can find any accurate information on if it's only a occasional treat or a everyday treat. I know so much about galah diet and Rosie only gets a nut as a training treat because galahs need a low fat diet, but I know nothing of African gray diets.

You know copperarabian - I didn't even know you owned a AG!, you talk so much about Rosie I never realized, LOL.
since I don't own a AG, although I would love to have one ;)...I'll let some one else jump in and answer that.
I would assume moderation is the key.

LOL I just adopted him 13 days ago from a local couple who have had him since he was just weaned(20 years). He's great, and very healthy. We're still get to know each other :)

moderation is the key, I just don't know how much moderation haha

Before my grey passed she got 3 pistachios 2 almonds and half a walnut per day
Plus her normal pellet and other mixes and fresh fruits and veggies. You can do about that much or less if you want. My grey was pretty large as well, not over weight but she was a big girl(wild caught). So that's what's I can say is pretty acceptable.

Sunny South Africa !!!
Parrots
African "Grey"
"Mishka"
Male
7 Years old
Everything in moderation.

When I began training Mishka I used nuts as treats only.

Two weeks down the line, he refused any treats, but happily carried on training.

Listed below are the nuts Mishka is offered daily:

3 different types of nuts per day
3 of each

Almonds plain
Cashews plain
Pecan nuts
Walnuts
Hazel
Brazil
Pistachios plain
Macadamias plain

It sounds like a large amount of nuts for one bird to eat daily.
I have monitored him, and noted he wastes quite a bit when he bites into the nuts, the majority falling to the bottom of his cage.

We give our CAG Zeus one or two nuts in the shell per day as treats.

Ha! That's for sure! Luckily they're not too expensive. :D

I'm so glad to be able to give Zeus nuts in the shell as treats. He LOVES opening Walnuts, Almonds, etc. I think he may enjoy opening them even more than eating them.

I haven't tried him on a Brazil nut yet. I wonder if he could open one. He's on the large end of the scale for a CAG, but those shells are tough.

We're trying to get him on a more varied diet, but so far he doesn't seem very interested in fresh food.
