My new girl jessie african grey help???

HEY GUYS

hi guys i got my new girl on the 12th of April and she was born on the 25 of December 2012 , she has been very good but now she wont let my kids and wife touch her i can go and pick her up as soon as my kids or my wife comes over she sort of barks at them and she wants to bite

she has just bit me as well so i put her back in the cage and i said NO to her is this normal ???? i don't want her to be like this to my family !!!!! is it still normal for her to beg me for food i still give her about 9 ml a night before we go to bed ,
i have got other parrots but not like this girl

Yep, familiar problem. We have same issue with my husband whom my AG bites. Didn't find a solution yet, hope someone will post any good advise.

i was aware of that problem, so i circumvented it by getting deliberately a male CAG....as soon as the bird sees my wife approaching the cage, he comes to the bars and bends the head for a scratch, while the occasional aggression towards her is much less...with me, it takes more effort, but i can devote the time, energy and care required to bond with him....owning a BFA that was totally bonded to me and aggressive to all other females, i wanted to make sure that any new bird should be positively predisposed towards my wife and daughters...

Maybe one by one, so not to overwhelm the new bird. Have each person spend a half hour reading, talking, or just sitting next to the birds cage.. And after each session offer her a treat she likes?

My CAG is super friendly, but if more then one person is hovering over her she gets overwhelmed and stressed easily. If Im out of the room she will allow my husband to pick her up if Im in the room she thinks he is part alien and turns her head and ignores him lol.

Good luck and give her time! I got mine April 12th to! Luckily mine is 5 years old though and been handled by LOTS of people already. But she still has her shy moments. Luckily, knock on wood, no aggresive biting.

Your bird has bonded to you as gizmo said let you family members just spend time near him. maybe 5 minute sessions and see where you child/wife can stand before the birds feathers fluff up/ just stand there for 5 minutes and Leave no if and or buts, every day do this 5 minute session and be patient your bird will let your wife and kids get closer everyday.
If you don't do this your grey will become a one person bird and view you as the her flock member and attack anyone else that she sees you with.
Greys are known to be one person birds but with training and patience it becomes easier.
