OMG this is the cutest molting period Mishka has ever had. Loosing so many feather my poor baby !!!!! :(

BUT

He is calling the shots now

When waking up in the morning, and placed on his potty he usually does his morning bomb
- no more

He first has to have his formula, then shower, then only after being blow dried will be poopie in his potty.

Normally when giving him his dinner, fresh veggies etc he gulps it down
- no more

I have to first give him a small piece of a peanut butter sandwich (minute piece) and place it in his bowl, he begins eating the small portion of pb, then gobbles down the rest of his dinner.

About an hour after dinner, he gets a little treat of plain yoghurt eating it from a teaspoon
- no more

I now have offer him the yoghurt from a little tupperware dish minus the teaspoon.

He never gets moody or cranky I am so fortunate, one would not even know he is molting, unless seeing the fallen feathers.

Anyone got any idea how long this molting period will take, it started about a week ago?

That's hard to predict, since different parrots molt differently. George the YCA used to molt twice a year, each molt lasting up to two months. With Ralph, no two molts have been alike. Last year, he molted slowly and continually for seven months! A friend has a Severe Macaw who molts slowly year-round, and always has for the 17 years she's had him. Considering Mishka's intelligence, personality and character, I imagine he'll molt as quickly and efficiently as he can. :)

you should ask him how he feels, he'll probably give you the utmost intelligent answer.

I'm assuming most birds molt differently, my gouldians moult for over 2 months and it is a slow painful process for them.

most of my other birds moult anywhere from 3-6 weeks.
half of my flock are moulting right now, and I've got feathers everywhere!!...some cranky some are fine

he gives you such joy 24/7, a little doting might just go a long way...he's too funny :)

He is like a prime minister, very busy schedule. I guess that I need to check up with his secretary if I want to have a meeting with him:D

Cute little funny habits absolutely.

I was quite aware that AG can molt year round, which is quite common
.
Was not sure Mishka fitted into that category though until yesterday.

It just so happened I noticed it only now because of him "changing his routine"

Mishka does have quite a few feathers falling out all year round, guess that is why is not cranky or moody at all.

Ralph he molted slowly and continually for seven months! How did you handle it?, shame that is a long ling long time poor Ralph

Mishka always go with the flow, never complains. I often say to Steven look how long he is sitting there just waiting for me, whether it be feeding him, training him etc.... I would certainly say Mishka handles molting extremely well.

Some AG molt all year round (checked it out properly yesterday)
Guess Mishka falls into that category.

I feel so sorry for all the birds during molting, must be quite painful for them.

How do you cope with all that molting Crimson?

WAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Your description is hilarious, Ant! Mishka, the royalty wants it HIS way, and HIS way alone. :D

I have no clue how long the big moults last on a CAG. I know for my big macs and Amazons they last about 4 weeks.

George always took his molts in stride-- though he did have the occasional "grouchy parrot day" during his molts. Ralph is pretty much the same, though he does demand more head scratches when he has pin feathers coming in that he can't reach. :) After last year's molt, I'm a bit surprised that Ralph didn't start saying "Aren't you done molting yet?" :D I said that to him a lot. His current molt seems to be shaping up to be another slow and gradual one too.

He sure is acting like the boss, you are correct HIS way and HIS way alone LoL

Normally when cooking, Mishka stays in the lounge and says "mommy is cooking ummm"

Early this morning I was making Steven porridge, Mishka walks into the kitchen and says "WHAT is mommy cooking ummm?"
Soon enough HE will be telling ME what to cook

Must be fun with George and Ralph

I am sure in their own way they do ask each other question like you have mentioned.
