what kind of sun light should I get for my african grey congo, and how long should I leave it on?

I just got a lamp for my Tim. In africa they get 12 hrs. of both light and dark but I am leaving mine on about 8 hrs. on advise from vet. She loves it and basks as close as she can get but no closer than 1 ft. As to the kind of lamp I ordered it is from Foster Smith. It is for birds.
