so much for kaytee food

I went to feed the birds this morning and I opened the bag ok kaytee fiesta for Smokey since that is what the 2nd owner had him on I figured I will continue for awhile and 2 moths come flying out of the bag grr and this food was in the frig am wondering how they survived in a zip lock bag in the frig , well off to the trash that food went good thing I always have some golden feast on hand , Rocky eats Goldenfeast and my safe bird store blends but Smokey won't touch kathys blends he does love the Goldenfeast as of today and tomorrow I'am heading to the bird store for some Higgins Intune pellets he loves those to , at least I know what he will eat now , Rocky and Opey aren't picky lol they will eat almost anything , geez now I have a picky grey

Did you have the bag in the fridge or freezer? IF you deep freeze them, it kills most of them off.

What is the weather like now in Michigan?
I would advice freezing the Kaytee as MickeyTN mentioned it kills most of them off

All ways check the expiration date, i find tons of old food on the shelf of most pet stores. I'm not sure even freezing will kill all the bugs and their eggs. Most of all is the nutrients/vitamins break down over time and you can't see that.

Same occurs here in South Africa all the food on the shelves in pet shops are ALWAYS passed the expiry date. I always buy from a wholesaler, products are always packed neatly AND when at the till they also check the expiry date.

I have had issues with other bird food from the pets stores, but I have never had a moth problem with Kaytee and I don't store the food in either the fridge or the freezer.

I had it in the frig but it's gone now, now he is eating Goldenfeast Carribian and I went to the bird store today to get some Higgins well they don't sell higginns I wish I would have known that so I ended up buying some Zupreme Nut Bledn Flavor and Veggie Blend flavor , he seems to like it so I think weare good their , I really want to get him on harrisons some day but that's in the future

so much for kaytee food
