Parrots
CAG, cockatiel
I am a 13 year old boy, my family has agreed to keep a parrot.
I have decided on a CAG. Do they have a special diet?
How big should their cage be? Is 3 months a good age to get them (handfeed from a breeder) how smart are they? How many toys do they go through in 1 year? Do the males and females differ in anyway? How do I chose from the clutch? Are stuffed toys (for humans) safe for them? What do I feed them? Thx for advance, and can they be introduced to other birds in the future (Senegal, cockatiel)

Hi now I don't own a CAG and I never have but my friend has one. They are VEARY smart birds!!! They eat a seed mix, pellets, fruits, Veggies, Pasta, white meat, eggs and a lot more. Their cage should be 20 inches wide by 29 inches high by 20 inches deep (from door to back) The toys they need 60% destroy toys, 8% Exercise, 17% Interactive, and 15% Noise. The go through toys a lot. stuffed animal toys are ok but just be carful about the buttons and button eyes/nose. Its best not to introduce them to small bird because big birds like to dominate and hurt the lil ones. Ok so have fun and please give him/her lots of attention, they NEED attention sense they are SMART birds oh and they are loud and talkative.

Congratulations on getting a bird! I just got my CAG about 5 weeks ago, but I also have a greenwing macaw. I suggest you go to the library and get some books on Greys, or Google it. People always say get the biggest cage you can afford however I have seen smaller birds get very upset in large cages. My CAG's cage is about 28x40 , large enough that she can spread her wings in both directions. Greys also don't need as much fat in their diet, a good pellet diet, veggies, nuts and fruits are good. They need a lot of simulation-activity to keep them from being bored or start plucking. I'm not sure if babies are completely weened at 3 months and you probably shouldn't hand feed since it's your first bird. I don't use stuffed toys, too dangerous imo. They biggest difference between males and females~ females can lay eggs , regardless of having a mate. I made all of my toys so can't help you there and I'm not sure how to
choose a baby all my birds are rescues. Have you considered rescuing?

Oh forgot to mention, not all birds talk, so don't be disappointed, also many Greys don't like to be cuddled

Hi I have a 3 year old CAG and she is the best bird ever she is very smart talks the paint off the walls . CAGs love to chew on anything wood especially , I would definitely clip the birds wings it is very danger is for a parrot to fly through a house they can hit a fan or a window or even bite an electrical cord . They need lots of wooden toys to keep there beak from over growing and too keep them happy . The bigger the cage the better my cage is 30 x 30 but you can go a little smaller than that . When you go and pick the bird out make shore the bird has been hand raised that means they have been feed by a human not the mother . Hand raised birds bond with humans much better than birds raised by the mother . I got my CAG when she was about 4 weeks old but she was not weened yet if you get one at 3 months just make shore there weened . And don't let the bird play with stuffed toys they try to eat the stuffing and it will make them very sick . A pellet diet is best seed is to high in fat for them and give the bird lots of veggies . If you have any more questions just ask
