Here in South Africa it is summer now.
Temperatures reach a peak of about 29 to 32 degrees Celsius.
The heat is really hot and humid.
Mosquito "season" in full swing.
Mishka my AG sleeps in the bedroom with me (in her night cage).
Bought Mosquito repellent, mat which must be plugged in.
Keeps the mosquito's away.
It's is called "Peaceful Sleep" many other brands available as well.
Read through the instructions etc, does not mention anything about being harmful to pets. Actually no warnings at all.
Would it harmful to a bird?
Until I am sure, I guess I will be at war with the damn mosquito's
Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Take care

Re: Misquito Repellent ???????

I can't find much information on "Peaceful Sleep" but one site says that it contains DEET (diethyltoluamide). If so, I wouldn't use it as DEET can definitely be harmful for pets and I would imagine birds would be especially susceptible.

I don't know if this would work, but one site suggests drinking tonic water because apparently mosquitos don't like quinine.

Re: Misquito Repellent ???????

Thanks Gevevieve
Read through a few sites, basically any repellent can be harmful.
Reckon I will be drinking tons of tonic water, and running to the loo all night LoL
Only one problem, the mosquito's love my blood.
This is one war I am going to win !!!!!!!
Take care

Re: Misquito Repellent ???????

If you own your own home and have a yard you can go natural: encourage dragon flies, damselflies, or bats.

A friend of mine never has mosquitoes around as he has set up bat shelters at the back of his yard. The bats only come out at night, but they do a heck of a job cleansing the area of any mosquitoes dumb enough to wander in.

Also if there are any ponds or swamps around stock them with some larva-eating fish and you'll hardly see a mosquito again.

Re: Misquito Repellent ???????

Thanks for the tips AD.
We live in an apartment, the only bats visible here is batty old me.
Only one mosquito last night AND I CLAPPED HIM DEAD, GONE FOREVER.
I know his cousins will be searching for him tonight, so I guess the war is an on going one.
Perhaps I should get some goldfish in a small bowl LoL
Great day
