Birds know when something sad has happened

Very sad day for us here, my mom passed away from cancer, in the early hours of this morning.

I could not sleep, from 1am. Got the call at 2.16. I then had a good cry, had to do something so started spring cleaning.
When Mishka awake at 4.30am, she never said one word. Not even a mumble.
Was talking to her till the time we left. Still no response.
We left the apartment at 6am.
As usual left a CD playing for Mishka.
Made all the funeral arrangements etc,
Returned at 4pm.
Spent quality time with her till 8.30pm and still not one word.
When I left the room she was crying and crying, it broke my heart.
She knew something sad had happened, I could even see it in her body language. Gave her lovies and lots of hugs.
Anyway when attempting to putting her in her night cage, she would not let go of my hand. She refused. Kept going down to do her back push ups. Let her to a few, then she settled down.
Walked into the bedroom to check up on her, 20 minutes later.
She was sitting at the bottom of her cage (she never ever sits there) crying and crying.
I took her out, gave her lovies, told her I love her, over and over again.
Sat with her for 1 hour, she seemed totally calm and content.

She then did something she has never ever done before.

She climbed up towards my neck, started giving me kisses, and said "Mommy give me a kiss please", gave her a big big kiss then she said
"I LOVE you Mommy"

My heart just melted, I then cried and cried.
Mishka was consoling me.

I never thought I could ever love her more than I do

My love grew a zillion times more for her !!!!

Oh Antoinette, I'm so very sorry about your loss! I'm glad you have your sweet Mishka to console you and to be your friend when you need it most. Melted my heart just reading this...

It is touching to hear that Mishka was there for you when you needed her comfort. She seems like such a good companion and friend. Your lucky to have her.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

I've always felt that my cats know when something was wrong, but they can't really communicate it - they just spend more time with me. The amazing thing about your Mishka is that she not only read your emotions so well but that you had given her the skills to express herself. You should be proud of your work with her.

Sorry about your mom, lost mine to cancer 3 years ago also. Birds don’t surprise me how smart they are, if you look back to the closes ancestors of the bird the dinosaurs , it makes a whole new light on dinosaurs being dumb creatures. I have seen birds do puzzles people can’t do, open combination locks, and so on. Prayers for you and yours.

My good friend we have chatted about this event in your life but not about Mishka's response. It is especially true of CAG and TAG to be tuned in to your emotions. You have done wonders with her and she is paying you back big time. Mishka loves you and your family very much. Did you Mom believe in the afterlilfe?

It's wonderful to know that there are people out there who care for others.
This forum is like having a family away from home.

Mishka started talking again only this afternoon..... then I cried again LoL
Now she won't stop....... like music to my ears.

We underestimate our birds, they understand more we will ever know.
