new to the game

Hi all .I am pretty new to the bird game and would like some help with sakos diet as in what not to feed her,she seems to like to sit with me in morning and help me drink my coffee,all though i only let her drink maybe a tast not sure if this a good habit to let her get into.
I read some on what is not good but looking for some help on what to stay away from giving her.
If anyone can help I thank you now .

I would not allow sako to have any coffee at all.
I think it is wonderful that you are here wanting to learn how to give sako the best life she can have.

Thank you Terri57,I Kinda have an Idea but I need to also educate my self to the do`s and don`ts,so any help and all help is a blessing.as I dont want to give sako any bad habits,so no coffee drinking for her.

Hey and welcome. Yes I agree no coffee. Definitely print out a list and put it on your fridge of what they can eat and what is poison. Always check with everything. I own a pizzeria so once a week I will go home and sit with Tango, the conure, and we will share a slice of cheese pizza. I will only let him get the sauce and bread though because we use natural products.
I would recommend making a list of things that are good (almonds, fruits, veggies) and making little treats that way you never have to worry. I won't lie once a month I do allow him one or two tastes of a milkshake lol. Whenever I eat he is always there in my mouth (figuratively) trying to eat whatever I have. What I do then is put him on his playstand and he eats when I eat.
Also ironically enough, they love chicken. I don't know if you want to do that to them lol but they love chicken. Make sure it isn't fried or give them the white meat.

Instead of coffee, you might want to consider green teas or herbal teas which are safe for parrots to drink.

At one point in time I did drink a lot of chamomile tea, and sometimes I'd even make some for one or two of my birds. It wasn't something I did often, however.



I do recall a story about a cockatoo that started to enjoy morning coffee with his owner and then he became an aggressive parrot. Once coffee was removed from his diet, he stopped being aggressive.
