I recently adopted an AG. I have always wanted a bird with this magnitude of intelligence. The parrot that I adopted is named Chleo and is said to be female and 10 years old. She was hesitant at first when I brought her to her new home, but after realizing that I was "boss" she has become almost inseprable in the last few weeks. (Got her on the 2nd for my Birthday-Wife and kids=)
When I picked Chleo up from the previous owners, they had told me she is molting. I have had cockatiels but have never really noticed them molting before. I have been suspicious that she is plucking. not that I see her do it but I just cant imagine her being naked is natural. I had thought she was begining to do better because some of the white feathers turned grey over the weeks, but I did find 3 larger feathers in the bottom of the cage night before last. I plan to take her to the vet really soon (have to find one.) I thought to put a roll of toliet paper in her cage and it served its purpose for a VERY little while. I have been letting her out most of the day, and feed her fresh fruits & veggies. Also will be switching to pellets, with occasional seeds.
I really love my new buddy, I just wish she would grow the chest feathers back and leave them. I plan to try the bitter spray. Any other advice?
PS. She is sooooo smart! I am currently making a list of all the things she says and does on command. My wife says she is deffinitly MY bird.
