How observant they really are, listening to everthing we say

Over the past 2 weeks, so much has happened in our personal lives.
Steven, my youngest son obtained his driver's license and his dad bought him a car, Thank God, and I purchased a new car.
You know how it goes, telling them to drive carefully, and all the rules, discussing this in the lounge, where Mishka's cage is situated.

Today out of the blue, Mishka tells me "Steven is driving his car"
I could not believe it..... she said it so clearly, word for word.
When Steven walked in the door, I rushed to tell him what Mishka had said.
Steven was so thrilled, he asked Mishka, is Steven driving his car?...... she then replied, Mommy's got a new car.
We were so shocked....... I am so proud of her.

I guess for the next few days, all we are going to hear is....
Steven is driving his car AND Mommy's got a new car

Mishka is amazing!! So is her wonderful family. Now you need to get Mishka a parrot car so she knows what a car is.

I am so fortunate that Mishka is always so willing to learn.
She has her own toy truck, which she loves.

Mishka is so smart!!

She's been doing fantastic; learning new words almost every day, and suprising you with how she's such a good listener. I'm sure you must be so proud of her!

Antoinette, that is such a cute story about your parrot Mishka. Tell me, how are African Greys as family pets, and how old is she? When we got Petey (my plucking Pionus) we chose him thinking he would be a good family pet but he's not all that affectionate, probably due to his plucking I would guess - he's shivering a lot (but I'm working on that). I too have a son about to get his drivers' license and a younger son also - I could use advice from anyone on a good family parrot that would be responsive to many people. Are African Greys known to be that way? What about Cockatoos? We've thought about getting another bird but I'm hesitant after Petey.

I don't know much on Greys but Cockatoos tend to choose a mate in the family. I had a Galah who only liked me and my Auntie had a sulfur crested who was in love with my Uncle and would attack my aunt whenever she went near him. I now have an Eclectus. They are supposed to not bond with just one person. She is definately my bird and isn't too keen on my hubby but I think that's more a trust thing with him. She's been good with everyone else - they are not affectionate like cockatoos though.

Ant that is hilarious, Mishka is so clever I love hearing all her stories. Just shows how you have to watch what words are used in front of them Jave you seen the Grey on youtube who swears in a scottish accent?

Steven is gone in his car. Took new pic's of her on Sunday.

When trying to video her, she sits still and never ever says one word.

Sure I am proud of her, and I get so much love and affection from her in return.
Every bird, has so much to offer, that's why we love them so much.

it is unbelievable how smart these wonderful creatures are! I have a "special needs" Scarlet, named Stubby. His parents chewed off his toes and most of one foot. You'd never guess by the way he gets around though. Stubby, talks up a storm, barks like our chihuahua, Topo, and picks up just about everything. He especially likes to say, "What are you doing?, what are you doing, doing, doing?" I don't like foul language, but I forbid it when guests come into the house because Stubby would begin saying that...all day! My B&G Papagayo will actually say, "Let's go to my room" when it's bedtime. They never cease to amaze me. I love them.

Mishka is now 2 1/2 years old. She makes a fantastic pet, entertaining us all day. I work from home, I reckon she is quiet for about 2 hours, she wakes up at 4.30am and nightie nightie at 8.pm.
She loves having people over LoL, she loves being the center of attraction. Mishka usually does not like cuddles, only lets me stroke her wings and scratch her head. Recently, when sitting on my lap, she comes closer to my stomach, and starts nipping at my fingers. I then pick her up, she then goes back wards, lays there and lets me rub her tummy.
She is an absolute joy to have around 24/7. She loves being spoken to all day, talking to her is like having a conversation with a human. I think if she was a human, she would have been a teacher.......
I Have had AG all my life, each one was so unique, do different in many ways.
Cockatoos I am not familiar with, perhaps other members, with experience will assist you there.
