I have an african grey that probably hasnt had natural sunlight in 10-15 years. I purchased and Avian Sun Full Spectrum Bulb for him so he can get some rays and in turn vitamin D. Question I have for people that use these bulbs, how long to you leave them on and do you use more than one? I wouldnt mind putting 2 on the cage since its a bigger cage and it would look better but I dont want to give him to much. Any advice would be appreciated :grey:

Coach, if your grey has not been in the sun for that many years, I'm surprised it has not had some health issues.....and would suggest that you adjust your schedule so as to allow your grey at least 30 minutes per day of outdoor time in shaded sunlight.....

As with some of the plethora of supplements & quick solution products offered in your business, the same holds true with the various "full spectrum" lighting products sold to the pet community & if you're new to the various products & sales pitches, you're invited to read up on what "full spectrum light" is and what it is not via http://www.parrotforums.com/general-health-care/35383-lighting-information-birds.html and a search of the forums' archives will provide you with further reading, as has been raised by other forum members on the same and/or similar topic, if you use the search parametert be warned, there is a lot of reading.....

Welcome to the forums.....

Thanks for the reply. I live in washington st. There Is no way to get him shaded sunlight until may. That is why im trying to do whats best for him in the meantime. Im definitely not looking for a quick fix solution. Just something that helps the cause ya know. I agree that there are so many junk products out there in my profession along with many others.

I will definitely read the article.

If you have a travel cage for your bird, placing a board over part of the top would provide enough shade for him to get out of the sun.....sorry if I sounded curt & don't worry about asking questions, I doubt there is a member here who did not join without at least one question.....
