My CAG Isaac came with a water bottle which was great because he couldn't make 'soup' and it stayed clean. He worked really hard at tearing it up, however, and managed to knock it down a lot. So now we have a water bowl. Which do you use? The bottle is cleaner and lasts longer, but there is the chance that it could clog....:smile027:

I personally think a bowl is cleaner. I just don't feel like I can adequately clean the bottle and parts.

I use 2 bottles. My dishwasher has a sterilize mode. Clean as a pin;). Tried a bowl, but Mango likes to soak his food!:p. Nevwe had it clog in the year I've had him.

We use bowls most of the time, but we have a bottle that we bought for the travel cage (our bird will be traveling a lot) to keep the spillage to a minimum. Cleanliness with the bottle isn't any rougher than the bowls really. It comes apart and can be cleaned by hand or in the dishwasher.

We use bowls exclusively - they double as swimming pools/hot tubs/bathtubs. Of course, they need cleaning daily. My rule is - if I wouldn't happily drink out of it, they shouldn't have to, either. Our CAG "Reno" dips his head in the bowl, flings the water up in the air, then catches the drops coming down like he's in a shower. He does this several times (everything within 6 feet or so gets soaked) until the water's pretty much all gone. Then, I give him fresh water, and he has a drink. Funny guy!

While a bottle lakes a smaller mess, the bowl is much easier to properly sanitize. Also, bird who eat pellets or other dry food NEED to be able to dip it in water if they feel like it, because the food it too dry to properly digest without help. I use a bowl. If a bird is making soup, I put one water bowl by the food, and one on the other side of the cage. This has worked every time to insure that one bowl is clean (the one farthest from the food) so that even when the bird dips food, they have clean water. Some birds sit on their dishes and poop, but most times this can be fixed by putting the right perch a bit higher than the dish but nearby, being careful not to place the perch where the poop will fall in the water.

I do teach my birds to sue a bottle when possible, however, because it is much better for traveling :)

I use bowls too, changing the water twice a day or more often if someone is in a soup making mood:rolleyes:
