A little while ago seltzer was on sale at target, so my boyfriend and I bought three cases. I don't usually drink carbonated beverages. I hope you can see where this is going. Malcolm has been burping all day for weeks now. He will go through his usual monologues and then always end them with a nice long burp (he started using his creative license with the burping). "Hello? Beep! HEY! No. NO! Coco! Woo!" And then a burp. Or when I have company he will go dead silent and then burp randomly. It's a little embarrassing at times, but I think it's hilarious. Anyone else have a bird that picked up something funny?

This is going on in the background as I type- BURP! Good boooy. C'mon. Step up? Burp.

LOL! My CAG coughs and sneezes like I do, and he has picked up "God Bless You" from my Alex and says it after his play sneezes.

I have a tenant who moved here from California during the spring and she was sneezing for weeks. Mal had it down to a T!

Hahahaha!! I was giggling all through your post!! My husband has allergies, and our lory has picked up all kinds of sounds - she makes the "clearing her throat" sound often.

My husband sometimes blows his nose with a paper towel... so if she sees or hears a paper towel being taken from the roll, she makes a loud, blowing the nose sound. She does burps too, sometimes as a greeting to us, lol! She imitates sneezes, in a very cute way I might add!

Another thing, if she sees us pick something up from the floor, or use a paper towel or kleenex to wipe up something from the floor, she yells "Sweet Pea! no potty on the floor, no potty there!"... Also if I she's out playing on the floor with her toys and I leave her upstairs for a minute to go downstairs and get something, then the whole time I'm gone, she's waiting on the upstairs landing, chanting "Sweet Pea, no potty, no potty there, no potty" in a scolding tone... basically threatening me that if I don't come back up soon, she's going to go potty on the floor. LOL, she's a character!

Sweet Pea is gorgeous as well as smart! What does her voice sound like, I have never heard a Lory talk?

Thank you! Here’s a couple videos – in the first one she is talking ... she uses different tones of voice to say things.
In the second video, she is playing on the floor and at the very end she talks. It’s like she knows the camera is on her, and she gets quiet and still… so I’m snapping my fingers in the second video to get her playing. You know how these parrots are very interactive little creatures! :)

I'd love to see video of Malcolm burping as well:)

just to add to the funny noises greys pick up on, my old roommate was a bit flatulent sadly my grey picked up on that noise and for a good couple weeks would do it randomly. though we were able to get her to do raspberries instead and has since stopped.

Our grey "Reno" comes up with new stuff every day. He, too, thinks it's hilarious to let out with a long, protracted burp (my wife is trying to teach him to say "Pardon me" afterward, but so far, no go).

As it happens, Sammy, my Yellow-Naped 'Zon is starting to act as a foil for Reno. Reno happily makes a phone-ringing noise (loud, crystal-clear, and absolutely authentic), whereupon Sammy says "Hello? Hello?! Helloooo?!". It's funny when we get a genuine phone call, and the caller on the other end hears this exchange in the background. More than once, our callers have said "Oh, I hear you've got someone on the other line. I'll call back later."

A couple of days ago, Reno was on his perch in the kitchen with my wife while she was doing dishes. She dropped something, and he said "You make life soooo difficult!" He clearly has a sense of humor in addition to his rich vocabulary...

That is great! I have been afraid of Mal learning the nose blowing noise, but I am pretty sure any noise he does is always adorable.

I am trying to teach him to excuse himself too! So far no luck, it's so random the things they choose to pick up!

He's a little camera shy. But if I can get a burping video I will definitely upload it!

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
My handfed TAG has a fairly limited vocabulary; he calls his name of "ET", does a few whistles, says "good night, ET", calls my mom "Isabel." Otherwise he's rather quiet, never screams!

Mine does the coughing and sneezing fit... then says "Oh gawd... I feel like $hit!" :D Yeah, that was me. He does it so convincingly, that my girlfriend came over when I was gone, and thought I was home sick...

My Grey lets out a long fart noise to which my Amazon poppie starts laughing up a storm which gets the grey laughing as well then we all (wife and I bust up Laughing).... still trying to figure out who farted where the grey picked up on that....Hint...wasn't me...maybe the dog...Ha ha.

Espresso doesn't say too much but mimics every kind of beep and whistle there is ever. Whenever I walk into the kitchen an open the microwave, she makes the beeping sounds it makes. She also does a water droplet sound when doing dishes and an alarm sound occasionally. One time, Chris and I burnt something in the kitchen and the fire alarm went off....now she makes the fire alarm sound whenever she hears us cooking hahahahaha! She also burps (which seems to be a favorite among greys) and says "helloooo" whenever we open the front door. Surprisingly, at 20 years old and after only being with us since November, she says "good girl" in my exact voice.

I think it is interesting that even older parrots will learn new things. Mine just seems to pick up sounds that he likes, not that we want him to learn!!

My grey used to call my kids in my voice! Then, he would scream like our daughter when she was a toddler. I would run multiple times a day sometimes in a panic! Then, he would bark like the dogs and I'd blame the dogs, a master manipulator that one! Miss him so!

Our grey calls the dogs...then, in a firm masculine voice (mine) says "Go lie down!". Initially, they did, too! Didn't take them long to figure it out, though...
