Hi every one!

i have had my CAG for about a week now,i have a few questions that books cannot answer. if some people dont mind answering some for me :)

first off my parrot decides to take flight into my friends bedroom once a day, is there a reason why she may be doing this?

i give my parrot fruit and veg every day, but she seems to only eat the grapes. any fruit or veg that any one could recommend i try?

last one when she sleeps/naps she does this weird thing with her beak, its like us grinding our teeth lol thats the only way i can explain it. If any one knows what i mean im just interested what she is doing.

Congrats on the new CAG. They're wonderful birds.

Okay, now for the questions...

First - So, is she not supposed to be in that room? I would suspect that she's just curious or she's found something in that room that she enjoys...a place to perch, comfortable temp, could be lots of things.

Second - like people, parrots have food likes and dislikes. Grapes are fine, but not the only fruit/veg she should be eating. Try sweet veggies like carrots and peas and limit how many grapes she gets. Have you given her sprouts? Most birds love them and they're very nutritious. Here's a link where you can get supplies and more info. The Coolest Sprouting Seeds on our Planet!

Third - beak-grinding is natural for most birds and doesn't mean the same thing as teeth-grinding in people. It usually means the bird is relaxed and content and doesn't damage their beaks at all. Weird, I know, but just something to get used to.

Enjoy your baby!

HRH is has given you good suggestions. My Rosie loves sweet potatoes in any form. You want to give a good mix of both orange/yellow vegies and green vegies. Try whole snow peas, they love to peal them and get the pea out. Also suggest cranberries, blueberries, apples (no seed), melons, small bit yogurt and the list goes on and on. You will have to just try out many fruits and vegies to see what your bird prefers. AG are not fast to eat new food. Suggest you sit down with a plate of what you want your bird to eat and eat it with her. She will see you eat it and then know it is safe to eat. Have fun.

Here is a wonderful site to learn more about AG: http://www.africangreys.com/articles/overview/beauty.htm

:) Glad to have you on our friendly forum.
I see you have already been welcomed with so many interesting replies.
Great advise from HRH Di and SB.
My AG Mishka, 2 years and 8 months old, still grinds her beak, after eating her veggies at night. I then know she is so happy and wants to start on her training session.
Good luck, any questions shoot.....
