Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
It's basic Darwinism. The flocks evolved and adapted to their environment as they moved inland. The flocks migrated to Africa, and the smaller and darker ones remained in the coastal areas. The larger ones moved inland, found more food, and grew larger their coloration changed slightly. (the "silver" grays - the smaller and darker CAGS are the coastal grays.)

The Lake Victoria Island flock grew up in total isolation, with lots of food and no real predators, and became HUGE... I've never seen one, only pictures and stories - but a 700-750 gram CAG is gigantic.

Tusk is big - and he's a "silver" CAG (the lighter colored and larger CAGS)

They are ALL Congo African Greys, the difference is the region of africa where their parents were from. There are no scientifically categorized sub species. It's genetically the same bird.

Same is true with macaws really. Most of the central american species, and birds from the mountain regions, are smaller than their cousins from the interior of the amazon rain forest. They found more food back there, and they evolved larger to fend off predators. The bigger ones got the best nesting spots, and successfully drove off predators.
