Bed time ritual

Perjo - Female CAG hatch Nov 2015
Perjo has been with me for a month and for the last 2.5-3 weeks she's had a ritual when I say time for bed. She awaits me to place the beach towel over the back of the cage ( to protect against a draft ) and while I start to grab the bed sheet to place over cage she starts climbing around the top (inside of course) upside down, and she'll do it for 3-4 minutes. I whisper goodnight, walk away and she settles into her swinging perch and settles in.

My breeder told me they tend to act like bats from time to time, I just find this a quirky ritual.

Anyone else's CAG do anything similar?

No CAG, but Salty has his nite nite ritual, too. Last minute snack, bite the bars a bit, then climb onto his sleeping perch. One by one I turn off the lights in his area and then cover him with the black cover. He is asleep shortly after. No drama, no fuss. Good bird.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Isn't that such an endearing quality? Many of mine have ritualistic behaviors, but my TAG likes to officially say "Good Night." Only at night, never during the day. He clearly associates the phrase with darkness and the closing of windows/blinds.

I swear CAGs are part bat. Espresso spends a lot of her time upside down.

The only Ritual BB has ........ He will say every word in his vocabulary . In a whisper . Kinda cute and you really have to listen to hear them all. I am hearing Nite nite in there so maybe he is FINALLY picking it up.

I love it, I just see it as quirky b/c I don't understand her completely yet b/c she is so young and becoming a more complete bird every day.

On one hand it amazes me how much trust she has in me, I can handle her anyway I want whenever I want, she steps up and steps down on command, she knows if she leans toward where she wants to go (while perched on my hand) I'll get her there. She knows "stay", to a decent degree. Yet when I talk to her and say everyday things I've said hundreds of times to her each day she offers a different reactions as if she's taking it in, or absorbing different nuance from it as she matures.

And yet, she's extremely cuddly, which from my reading CAGs usually aren't.

It's beyond fascinating to me.

Our CAG loves to be upside down when he's in a playful mood. I've tried that with my 'Zon...not so much. He HATES to be upside down!

Our CAG is cuddly with my son, likes to be held like a baby. However he also likes to be carried upside down. I would never have tried it but my son did.

Bedtime, I turn off his light and tell him it's birdie bedtime. That means it is immediately time for him to climb all over the top of his cage inspecting how I cover it. He also starts doing his cat impersonation. After several rounds of "goodnight mr. Cat" "bedtime buzzy" he gets on his perch and goes through his full repetetouir of sounds and words and then he settles down. It's takes him a good 15 minutes to get quiet. That's when I usually hear what new things he's learning.
