Perjo - Female CAG hatch Nov 2015
Last night I noticed a bit of a pattern. Perjo loves to sit on my shoulder like many FIDs, and once in awhile when she is perched up there I answer my cellphone and have a quick conversation. Perjo usually likes my left shoulder the best so I usually grab the phone with my right hand.

She seems to take issue with this, 3 times now in the past 2 weeks she takes a very sharp nip at my left cheek when I am talking with the phone up to the other side of my face. A legit nip meant to either get my attention or cause some pain. She has seen my phone hundreds of times, I take photos & videos with it all the time, so I'm baffled at her taking major issue with the phone itself. I'm guessing she is upset b/c she knows I am having a conversation that is not directed toward her or she interprets some kind of relationship between me and the phone.

Thoughts?

I'm going to put an end to this behavior immediately as it is too dangerous that I could get an eye plucked and b/c she should not be acting that way even though it's not a fault of hers. I will just avoid grabbing the phone when she is on my shoulder but I do want to attempt to address this when she is up there with my phone in hand, kind of as a teaching moment.

Not sure what the thing is with 'phones, I have only to pick mine up and Plum goes for it. To the extent I cannot even hold it in my other hand from carrying him, have had to put it down my trousers out of sight if I want to carry Plum and 'phone! IMO don't push this or videos and pics will become off limits too which are to me. Definitely sees it as a threat even just a 'ping' new message alert and his head pops up. Be careful re those nips.

I honestly think it is a jealousy think, at least I know it is with Chicken. She has done similar things to Perjo if I am on it, although her nips are not painful, just a "hey, look at me!". If she is on my shoulder and I'm looking at my screen, she will climb down and either sit on my arm just in front of my phone, or she will climb right onto my phone and stare at me. I think they see it as you are interacting with the phone instead of them, so it becomes "competition" if you will.

Rb hates all phones, cams, remotes... they're bird-size and make noises... unacceptable.

Two green cheek conures, one sun conure, and two quakers.
I put my phones on speaker because of my birds. They go after my fingers, face, & phone.

Things are about to get real interesting. I have two friends that each want me to meet a friend of theirs. I've not dated since I brought Perjo home. If I decide to date one of these women **** might hit the fan once Perjo gets whiff of this.

Take it slow with introducing Perjo to anyone new, if you bring them home then don't sit too close, don't do shows of affection in her view, or may be seen as competition. Acceptance is what you are striving for. Plum loves hubby but shows of affection are still off limits. Hopefully this person likes parrots? Good luck and enjoy your date.

I think it's jealousy. My fids don't go for the phone but I work at home and do a lot of conference calls. I can't put the phone on speaker or my attention pig Buddy has to join the conversation because he hears voices. And you are in trouble when you start dating, LOLLLLLL LOLLLLL!!!!!

Same here. Talking on the phone is taboo. I'll be watching to see what people recommend.

Yep on the phone thing, but only when I'm talking on it. Even my Australian Cattle Dog goes crazy if she sees me talking on my phone. Just holding the phone, texting, anything else is totally ignored but as soon as I put it to my ear and start talking the birds go crazy and the dog starts growling. Part of me thinks it might be a sound the phone puts out when you're on a call that is at a frequency we can't hear...

Good luck on dating, I haven't been on a date in a while, but while I was worried about my dogs not liking the person it has always been one or more of the birds that had "issues" with new people, especially if there was any physical contact. They always want to put the bird on their finger, so the last time I had the green cheek step up, thinking he would be the most accepting and would just like the attention...Well, he stepped right up and just stared at the person, turning his head left to right. They were like "oh he's so cute, look at him!" until they tried to scratch his head like I did when we first walked in. Bowie drew blood and took a good chunk out of their index finger..😈

As soon as they left I swear he smiled and looked proud of himself.
