Horse barn smell from toy

I've been smelling an off smell lately and have been trying to figure it out and while cleaning and searching I found it. Timneh sleeps ontop of a coconut shell toy that has chucks of coconut through out on ropes with other materials. She loves it. However it smells like a horse barn is this dangerous? I started scrubbing the top piece and realized it's through out the toy. Should I attempt to disinfect this toy or is it simply not worth it. I worry where she will sleep tonight but I removed the toy and will put her old sleeping toy (a wood block and rope toy) back in. I had been steam cleaning the toy guess it wasn't enough. I feel dumb for not figuring it out a little sonner but I think I was being mislead by pieces of the toy being spread about. It was really hard to target where it was coming from. It was super over powering and seem to linger just to the left of her house. Sorry for ranting on. But I am scared that this could be dangerous as didn't know if there were any long term effects to worry about. She seems fine and in good health if not a little moody lately. But I've been working a bunch and busy so I think she just wants more attention. We had a good skirt he session last night before she would eat her dinner, and some good conversation. She loves to be told how awesome and beautiful she is. 😎

Horse Barns have several smells from the aroma of hay, oats and other feed /bedding to what comes out the other end. :D

Coconuts should not have an aroma like the other end of a horse. It they do, it is possible that they are rotting.

Sailboats point is interesting and could be a plausible answer. However when i heard that the toy has rope running through it i instantly thought of the smell of hemp rope or sisal rope which both have strong earthy aromas. So are you sure it is not just the ropes making the smell . What type of ropes do ypu have in his toy? Goodluck finding the source and i hope timneh is well. :)

Not sure the rope is different but I think it's definitely the rotting coconut in the toy. Hope Timneh can find a place to sleep tonight. It's kind of like the smell of the whole ranch I guess as I remember it from a kid. My sister used to ride horses. Parents left me at a ranch once on accident I will remember it always. There was a really old Indian guy and I must of walked around him and his tobacco pipe 20 times. Lol

Timneh was a real champ tonight. She went right to the old toy for bedtime after fussing with the positioning with my help I could tell it just wasn't right. So I realized I had put it in the wrong spot. She wedges it underneath the side of her cage and the sleeps on the other end of the block, basically making her own widled down self made perch. So after only about 10 minutes of moving toys around we were able to get comfy and tucked in for bed. I actually already noticed a difference in the way Timneh smells and the strange smell is gone. Gonna go shopping tomorrow for a replacement toy that will probably take a month or so to finally be accepted and deemed safe enough to explore.
