New Human Need Advice

New to the forum.

I just rescued a new human and I've had a few issues with it.

I really need some advice on how to make it step away. I'm curious and want to learn all I can about it. When I try to get closer it jumps up and gets in my face. Hi Jack, how are you, are you ok, are you hungry, is it to hot, is it to cold, try this, try that....it's getting on my last nerve. Poor thing needs some serious training.

Do they all walk around real slow in the dark? This one keeps awful odd hours. When I call for it in the morning it comes in really quiet and starts chattering. Good morning Jack, how are you and so on and so on and so forth. I will say this about him, I think it's a he (no eggs yet), he's very consistent with the morning routine. And he sure can gather some fine vittles. Do they eat the same food we do? This one seems to try everything I like. Sometimes it makes funny faces and makes awful sounds like it's choking. Then it spits. Are they all this messy? A shame it wastes such good food. He gathered some Avian Naturals the other day. He filled my dinner bowls then disappeared. He must have gotten lost because he didn't come back that night like he always does. He didn't come back when I whistled for him the next morning either. He always whistles back. He finally slinked in that evening. He brought all kinds of treats from far, far away.

I've been using my clicker sound but he just doesn't seem to understand what it's for yet. He just chatters, whistles and plays music.

We are getting along fine and he leaves my door open a lot so I can fly around. He finally stop running and screaming out of the room when I fly. He must be feeding his family because he gathers all the things I drop on the ground. I drop a few extra things just to help out. Poor thing.

I'll try my best to keep him happy. Odd creatures these humans.

Any advice on how to communicate with these funny looking fellers will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Jack,
Sounds like you are on the right track with your new human! Here are a few pointers;

Instead of dropping extra food, it's best to learn to actually fling your food bowl across the room. This helps the human most easily pick out his favorite bits.

I'm glad he has stopped running away when you fly. To help him see how silly it is to be afraid of you, pick random household items to be terrified of yourself. You can pick new ones when you get bored.

Hi Jack, sounds like you got pretty lucky with your human. If I don't like something I 'phuff' mine, it is a special Galah noise, it seems to work. If I want mine to go away, I just go into the corner of my cage or shout "see you later!" that works a treat.

If your human won't come back then keep shouting "hello" and then if that doesn't work pick up a food bowl and drop onto the floor below? That'll do it! If your human has given you a bell, that is what you use to call them every time you want something, ring, ring, ring, ring. It's great, it works!

Keep up with the flying practise Jack, my human keeps trying to get me to do more but I'd rather walk tbh. All the best Plum.

The clicker might be too subtle.
Tell him
"good boy" when he walks in the door.
"good boy" when he pees.
"good boy" when he flushes.
"good boy" when he pats the dog
"good boy" when he opens the fridge
"good boy" when he takes his shoes off
"good boy" when he answers the phone
"good boy" when he turns on the tv
"good boy" when he turns off the tv.
And if he looks like he's about to sit down for 5 minutes peace...well we know thats unproductive! Just ask him what he's doing!!

Well Jack, humans are a curious and unpredictable form of life. Not having wings makes them 2-dimensional unless they have toys called ladders to climb high. And don't even try to reason with those noisy metal fake birds they love to use.

The best thing you can do is encourage them to love you. They seem to have a soft spot for feathered critters, so acting cute and cuddly is a help. Talking to imitate them is even better, no other animal can do this!

They do have odd habits and need lots of time once they wake up. So much start the day with a screech and stretch of the wings!

Capn' Jack, I think you're doing an amazing job with your wayward new human! And so thoughtful too, concerned for his family and offering your own food, I could hug you! I think it's great that you are working so hard to keep your human busy, I hear humans do better when they have simple tasks to occupy their minds. Great job, Handsome! Jack, welcome. This is Tsali's female human. Humans are definitely confusing and challenging, I know from first hand experience. Been there, done that. Even good parrot parents can be difficult. Because we communicate with different languages, both verbal and non verbal, all too often we can only guess what the other is thinking, feeling, needing. So, please be patient, in time, hopefully less rather than more, you and your human will find a way to communicate in a positive and rewarding way. Remember to be patient and use lots of praise.

GOOD LUCK JACK! And I agree, we definitely need a Grey emoji.
