Last night I was just about to Go into the living room with my dinner. I had my hands full turned around and boom there was Timneh. Out of instinct I ducked lol luckily she flies to well now and landed on my head with no problem. Has anyone else been surprised or startled by your parrots before? Usually I hear her coming this was the first time she gotten me. Would love to hear some stories.

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
my apartment is a bit strange. Essentially the upstairs overlooks the downstairs as a balcony which is parrot paradise. My conure grasped flying down very quickly (I never knew it was hard) any time I left his sight he would charge after me which I was used to. eventually he learn when I was going upstairs and would just go up and sit in the railing up there. First time I walked up I saw him there and thought I had 2 parrots for a moment!

I think Timneh still has Trouble gaining altitude. She hasn't flown up the stairs to get to me yet. I don't think she's re grown all of her trimmed feathers yet from when I got her last year still. She seems to be in a nice gradual molt which from what I understand is good.

Thankfully Rio came to me with his flights intact. The breeder I got him from is pretty good, I just wished they were able to interact with him when he was a true baby but with them having about 120 a year born I can see how that's difficult. thankfully he was very friendly and enjoyed my company

Fly free Plum, my gorgeous boy.
It looks like Timneh was spurred on perhaps by your dinner? If there is a slight chance of some it is amazing what they will do.

Re the flying upstairs from my experience with Plum who can and does do this fairly regularly now Timneh will need to strengthen her muscles before attempting this so do not push her. Short flights will do this though.

The way my house is to get to the kitchen you go through a doorway and a 90 degree turn. So if Timneh knows for sure I'm in the kitchen she comes to find me. Luckily my kitchen has two doors to totally close it off so if there's anything hot I can just close the doors. Still don't do as much cooking as I did before I got my little baby. Timnehs climbed the stairs walking lol but she hasn't tried to fly up them yet. That was a big reason I wanted her to fly she was walking everywhere and she's so small.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
All the time! Three of my goffins love to fly and land on my back. I can hear them coming and don't mind at all. Usually!

Most of my parrots have a hard time flying non-stop up a flight of stairs. Usually need a rest break. My guess is they aren't conditioned for significant flying. My 2 wild-caught goffin parents could do so easily, but only one is in a part of the house with that freedom.

oh there was another one Rio did once that terrified me!

One time he was on his cage having a play with me, I turned around to go sit down and put the TV on. I turned around and he was gone, I looked to his rope boing, saw nothing. Looked on the kitchen shelves, nothing. Checked everywhere and saw nothing. I guessed he fell off the cage down the back so I went to sit down to take a better look, thank god I sat down slowly. As I slowly went down I heard a little screech. I immediately jumped up and there he was on the chair on his back looking at me with shock. It turns out the idiot decided my butt was a good place to hold onto and had been literally behind me the entire time I was looking for him
