Leaving african grey on his own.

Hi, firstly thanks in advance for any help

I have a Congo African grey who was born on the 4th of June 2014 (now 3yrs old), we got him on 28th of August 2016 so have had him 13 months now roughly.

Before e had him we had 4 canaries, two cockatiels and two budgies have come and gone since he has been here. Now because of work and other things in life it's extremely difficult to give both him and the other birds the out time they need, so I was going to re-home the cockatiels and the canaries (I'm happily able to give him the out time he needs just not the cockatiels and canaries as well as he doesn't play nice with them so they can't be let out at the same times).

I work full time from 9:30 to 5 and he sees me when I come home for my lunch break for anywhere between 5 to 20 minutes. There are other people in the house but he doesn't really get much attention from them as he doesn't like them and he is my parrot.

He doesn't really seem to like or care at all about the cockatiels or canaries but they do obviously make noise throughout the day etc, so my question is should he be okay if we do re-home the cockatiels?

I don't think your grey will miss the cockatiels and canaries as he is not bonded with them. The bigger question IMO is the fate of the two species you seek to re-home. Do you have a mutual connection with them, and is the decision to re-home solely due to the logistics of providing out-of-cage time?

If they must be re-homed, hopefully you well be able to locate the best possible situations for them, collectively or in clusters.

No one in the house has a connection with either, they cockatiel only seem interested in each other and the same for the canaires. Obviously i will do my best to make sure they go to a giod home and of course i will want the cockatiel s to be keot together and the canaries to be kept togethor.

The decision to re-home them comes from a few points, the main one sorta through their side of it is that i cant give them the time they need and a few from my side such as money, time and it would just make life easier and a bit less stressful in the evenings.

I understand! Keeping them together will help ease the transition to a new home provided each pair gets along well. Good luck, hope they find great new homes!
