Hi, my male Congo grey just turned a year and he is starting too talk. His name is Chico he also is starting too repeat what my blue and gold is saying and making every crazy noise he hears the other day he made a noise exactly like water running sneezes like my macaw itā€™s a fake person sneeze.

As my CAG learns new words or sounds she will repeat them for a few days before moving on to learning the next thing.... it may be weeks until she repeats older words which must mean her vocabulary is huge, she is 14yrs old now.

You will probably find that she will say different things in different peoples voices too.

Enjoy :)

Yellow Shoulder Amazon, Salty
Once a grey starts talking, there is no reason they cant start cognative and associate lessons. Salty,an Amazon, talks a lot, but aside from saying Up Up, to be picked up, we dont notice that he uses talking cognatively. Greys on the other hand are known for this. So smart !! Nother example: Salty says Hi Daddy when I come home, but is just as likely to say Hi Geri or Hi Erik. Greys are so accurate too, when they mimic someones voice it can be hard to tell who is talking.

And a Normal Grey Cockatiel named BB who came home with me on 5/20/2016.
Smokey was less than a yr old when she first started to make "noises"..first it was my mom's cough (Mom said to me "I think Smokey is sick...she's coughing!" lol)
I was on the road a few nights out of the week and mom would move Smokeys house into the spare bedroom and cover her up.In the morning go in and uncover her and say "how are you?" One morning Smokey beat mom to the punch,as soon as she got uncovered she blurts out to mom HOW ARE YOU???
Mom almost **** herself lol.

Grey's are very intelligent creatures, and learn quickly.

The talking is so much fun, congrats! Many Greys learn new words, phrases, and sounds their whole life and you never know what they will pick up. Great fun when you are chatting with them and they blurt out something entirely new and unexpected. Mushka uses several words in context and she has her own sounds for things, like her popping when she wants what you are drinking or her rattle when she wants your food and her odd purring coo when she wants cuddles. Can't wait to hear what else Chico says next.

word of advice, if your parrot picks up a 'naughty' word, just ignore him, if you respond he will do it more and more!

I caught a friend repeating 'f... off, f... off' to Enzo, i nearly knocked him out!

now whilst I do find some hilarity in hearing a parrot swearing to purposely make a bird swear is really stupid and inappropriate

not just one grey who uses an Echo! One I've seen keeps ordering strawberries

don't think amazon thought about parrots when making the alexa, slightly ironic considering the name of the company

Once they get going, there's no stopping them!

What IS spooky is that they can start forming grammatically-correct, cognitive sentences that suit the particular situation. Our CAG does this every, single day. When the place needs vacuuming, he says "This place is a mess!". Once the vacuuming is done, he says "Well, THAT looks better!". One day he wanted a cookie, and kept pestering my wife. She told him she was busy on the computer, and would get to him soon. His response? "Mommy - email me a cookie!". Now, I can tell you for a fact that he never, ever heard that sentence previously - he made it up to fit the circumstances. Recently, he started saying "I want a cookie, you old buzzard!" LOL. My wife wasn't impressed, so he didn't get a cookie when he added that epithet. Now, he asks sweetly for a cookie "Please Mommy, I'd like a cookie"...but he can often be heard muttering "...you old buzzard" under his breath afterward. He clearly considers it funny, and can't resist poking fun.

The first time you hear something like that from your Grey, you'll be tempted to chalk it up to coincidence. Maybe the second, third and fourth time, too. By the time you've experienced it hundreds of times, you will believe. These birds are incredibly intelligent, can understand abstract thought, and can put into words their wishes and observations.

It's spooky, and thrilling, simultaneously.

Here is a snippet of Enzo, Im in my office and Enzo is chilling in the bathroom. She likes being in there as she seems to like the sound of her own voice with the slight echo in the bathroom.

She is trying hard for me to leave my computer and spend some time with her. Note the different voices, she has had a few homes now.
