Gandalf - CAG (1997-2010) R.I.P. my baby boy.
Bitty - CAG (2 yrs old? and working on spoiling her rotten)
I took off work early today and made the 2 hour drive to meet the lady with the CAG at the board certified vet in Louisville. Fun drive in the pouring rain.

First thing, she would not come out of her carrier. It worried me, until I realized she was scared of her surroundings, and not me. I offered her my keychain and she gladly chewed on it. She even sort of leaned towards me when I tried to coax her out, but not quite there yet. So she is not terrified of me at all.

She put up quite a fuss when the vet got her out and toweled her. A racket only grey lovers can appreciate. Boy was she quiet and aloof afterwards as she retreated further into her pet carrier. I figure next to the vet, I will probably look like Prince Charming.

I say "she" because she is tiny! Only 365 grams. Gandalf had to be pushing 575. No grey fringing on the tail feathers, but given her size and the shape of her head, I'd say it's a girl. He offered to DNA sex her for 65 bucks, but I'm a bit strapped this week, so I decided I'll do it later. It's not really important right now anyway.

All of her blood, mouth, and poop tests came back good except blood protein, which was 3.1, when it should be a 4.0. The vet said this was all diet, as she has been eating mostly seed, I would bet. She will be getting good pellet as soon as I can transition her onto it. Fresh fruits and veggies too. (And the occasional nip of pizza I must confess LOL.) I still have to wait until this weekend for the results of her white blood cell test, as that has to be shipped out. Only after that comes back clean will I go back and pick her up, with her cage.

Her feathers are all there, no plucking, but she is a bit ratty and tattered looking. I would have to bet her cage is not kept very clean. I asked the lady if she bathes, and was told no. We will fix that!!! I will get her feathers all neat and zipped up again.

This poor girl doesn't even have a name. While she may have been well-liked, it's hard for me to believe she was really loved if she didn't even have a name. I can't wait to get her home and get her comfortable around me. I'm going to go buy a oil-filled heater this weekend to keep near her cage, as the woman told me she keeps her house at 74, a bit higher than I keep mine. I will of course post some pictures when the new arrival....arrives.

I've been thinking about calling her "Bitty", as in "Itty Bitty" since she's such a petite girl. Any other ideas?

By the way, the vet asked about Gandalf, and I told him the story. He added that he has also seen the little Glade Plug-In air fresheners kill parrots, so consider yourself warned.

OH MY GOSH!!!!! That is AWESOME news, so far. I am keeping you in my prayers Norf!! How amazing it would be for you to get that sweet little girl home. I think "Bitty" is an adorable name. 365, hah? Gosh, she is itty bitty, My Maui is a chunk bigger than her and he's only 16 weeks old!!!! But, you know Bob's little Ashley is a tiny thing too, she's super cute too. I can't wait to hear the final bit of news!!! Keep us informed, you know we're all beaming with excitement for you.
I know you'll get that pretty little girl's feathers all preened up perfectly, she won't have a feather out of place by the time you get finished with her!!

How wonderful!!!!!

I hope she comes back with an excellent bill of health and you will be able to get her home!

I love "Itty Bitty" it's so sweet! I won't go into names because they will be far too girly!!!

I'm so pleased for you and as usual, am crossing EVERYTHING!

I say the first name that comes to mind should be the keeper.:D I can feel your excitement - Bitty will be sooo happy, I am sure.

I am glad that most tests came back and are good. Scruffy looking does not matter - it is what is in the heart that counts.

Do you have any idea of her age?

I missed Gandalf's story, sorry.:(

I think Bitty is a great name. I can't believe her previous home didn't give her a name!

Yeah, the whole thing is sort of shady. I noticed a discrepancy or two in the lady's story...as if maybe she's just making it up as she goes along. At this point I don't care. If the bird is healthy, needs a good home, and doesn't have any major behavioral problems that are beyond my ability to fix, then I don't care if the lady is selling these birds on CL for a profit.

She's gonna get spoiled rotten by me.

I think Bitty is a great name... like Linky said the 1st name that pops into your head is the one.
That is how Abby became Abby...

I just know that everything will be fine with the white blood counts.
I am so anxious for you to get that little girl home and show her so much love and kindness.... you will have her spoiled in no time and she needs it.

How old is Bitty?

I was told she was hatched Feb. '09. It's always hard to say, once they get past a year, and their irises clear up. However, I do get the feeling with her that she is a young bird...she seems open to new things like most young birds are.

As long as she outlives me....all will be golden. ;)

I just got the word from the vet that her white blood cells count is normal. So now it's time to make arrangements to bring her home this Saturday! I think I need to make some birdie bread to celebrate (and to help win her over LOL). Though, with this one, I get the feeling that winning her over isn't going to take too long. Not a fraidy-bird at all from what I've seen. I'll be sure to get some great pics with my Nikon.

OH MY GOSH NORF!!!!!! HOW EXCITINGGGGG!!! CONGRATS, CONGRATS, CONGRATS!! I can't wait to see pictures, she is going to be the happiest bird on the planet. I can't describe the feeling of having an amazing relationship with a bird and for me, most especially a Grey, but, I know YOU already know how awesome it is. I'm so happy for you and I bet anything that Gandalf is standing on Rainbow Bridge cheering you on to bring "bitty" home!!!
