Timneh ate a big paint chip

Not sure of the kinds of paint pretty old place lots of layers. She bit me to keep crunching on what she had not really sure if she was swallowing or not. Thanks for the help.

how old is the place? She probably got a more recent piece but in the end if the place is old enough some of that paint could have lead in it which isn't good for anyone and I suggest calling the vet

Oh no! Doubtful she was attempting to eat, but some fragments might be swallowed or absorbed. I'd definitely call the vet for best advice. Be on a sharp lookout for abnormal droppings.

THanks guys. I would of made a longer post last night but Timneh didn’t want me typing too much. Think she was embarrassed. Talked to her he said to keep an eye on her on the venting and to keep him in the loop. Also said to feed her coconut oil to lube things up. So she chowed down on coconut oil. Her venting this morning was normal, and she was up early and ready to go. This house is older and used to be my grandparents and my grandma did not mess around. She was 95 when she died and still fit into her wedding dress so she said lol. So it’s likely there are a tons of layers from many years and probably before the 70’s also. Though it looks like she got only white layers and it may have been a tan before that so fingers crossed. Looked away for two seconds where’d Timneh go? Up on the door chomping at the top of the door frame. She must have noticed a weak spot where it had been bumped and went to investigate. I gave her a time out inside her house she was not happy. But I wanted to make sure she understood this is a no no if the most serious kind.

We turn a head and then they've disappeared somewhere! Glad that she is doing better today. Sending good thoughts and prayers for continued improvement.

Glad she doing okay :heart: & the Vet didn't seem too concerned, so that's good. What a scare. You just never know what they'll get into .... Just like a toddler always getting into mischief.

Except these toddlers can fly and have a can opener on their face. LOL

My hearing isn’t great but I feel like Timnehs flights ar mor quiet now that she has all her flight feathers.

Glad Timneh is ok! Can't take your eyes off some birds for a second or they'll find a way to get themselves into trouble. Definitely a big no no to be eating paint chips. Hopes she picks up that concept very quickly.

- Flight with a full set of Wing Feathers! Much quieter now! With the exception of full and deep cuts, she is going to be able to slip right in next to you!!! Watch for her take-offs and landing, learn those sounds! With the exception of a deep cutting turn, it will likely be the only time you will hear her!

- Your home, like our last home will have Lead Based paint!

Very likely that she only got a small amount! The oil recommended by your CAV will help to quickly move the Paint chips and the Lead in them quickly out of her. She will likely get looser today and be back to normal late tomorrow. NOTE: Be watchful for some signs of blood in her droppings as paint chips can have shape edges!!!

You need to get a long handled paint scraper! The one with the exchangeable curved blade on it!!! The handle is like 12" (305 mm) long and has a knob (commonly red) over the blade on the front. They will let you apply much more force than a standard scraper! Any Paint Center will have them!

Tour your home looking at all corners, edges, joints, attachments and areas where the paint has lifted. You can max. the force on wood surfaces (just remember to keep the blade flat, as it can dig grooves fast) and on plaster and dryboard (wall) use much lighter pressure as you can getting into the dry board or plaster rapidly!!! Clean-up: Do Not Use A Vac!!! As it will spread the Lead dust though your home and contaminate the Vac, requiring you to trash it! Use a garage broom and mop to clean-up and hand clean with a garage rag, which you trash after using!

Use a Water Based Sealer and Paint to cover areas that you find loose paint and have removed. This was our standard Spring and Fall project!

Warning! Lead can have a sweet taste to it, which once a child or pet tastes will keep them come back for more! Some dryboard (wall) had Lead in the material itself. Anytime you see any signs of Paint or dryboard crewing, remove, paint (and/or dryboard), repair, seal and Paint!

Interesting. I've always heard of kids eating paint chips but I never understood why.

In the context of a parrot, perhaps one of the fruity flavored mineral blocks or edible perches would provide a more suitable thing to be crunching on of a similar consistency?

I used to eat paint chips all the time and now I'm the space pope of the parabola universe so thangs are always looking up to myself!

Anyways If you don't live in an old house....pre 1971 (50 years old now) which was when lead based paint was banned by congress, I doubt any real bad effects. Understand human babies also live in houses.....and for some stupid reason people seem to care more about them than glorious parrots. So your parrot should be fine.
