Why are sooo many African Greys named Smokey??

I'm "adjusting" the newly adopted CAG's name to Smoky Blue... it fits him better anyway.

Wellllllll... it's a color-savvy name, yet whimsical and suggestive of illusive charms... and since it is often chosen, it has a traditional aire to it. I can dig it. :)

True... the name does evoke some mystery. It just occurred to me when looking up some CAG videos. I called my little CAG friend "Smoky Blue" after a mascara name LOL

I see so many named Kiwi also :) and i forget the other name, doh. I have also seen many Greys named Smokey lol. With Xander it took 3 days to give him a name. I had to get a feeling and look at him to figure it out. It interests me how people decide on names for creatures. I like things that are abit different. I saw a Quaker called Odin. It made my day lol and its funny when you see them with human names like Dave haha. I want to call my next Parrot, Neptune but it may change on the vibe i get from him x

Same reason 75% of female eclectus are named ruby *sigh*. It’s a color thing.

There are probably thousands of Sun conures named "Sunny". When my cockatiels got to me, I think their names were Sweetie and Angel. Ahem....I immediately changed their names for obvious reasons. Be creative, people!

or the vast majority of Sun conures are called 'Mango'

That's the one I couldn't remember dude lol. I saw someone with 2 female Quakers earlier called Lyric and Melody. Very beautiful and different names within the same context x

I named mine Perjo after a week of careful consideration while she was still at the breeder. She was a very large female whose parents were from Hawaii, so I looked up Hawaiian names that related to large giant and Pirjo came up, I just altered the spelling to make it more unique. I also considered names that begin with an easily repeatable phonetic sound, I feared P would be a sound they would have trouble with but she says her name just fine now.

Enzo - adopted Female CAG circa 2004. A truly amazing young lady!
Mines called Enzo, her real name is Penzo but my son and I had been talking about buying a Ferrari (just need next weeks lottery numbers and we are there!). So Penzo became Enzo after Enzo Ferrari.
Strangely she will only say Enzo or Penzo in a deep voice, not very lady like.

Our CAG was named "Reno" by his previous parronts. I have no idea why, but it seems to fit him, so we're good with it!

It's the same in dogs and cats - tabbies names Tabby or Tiger or Tigger, Calicos named Cally or Cali or Caleigh, and black Labs named Blackie or Midnight, etc. You name the species, there's the apparent "go to" name. Sigh.
