My adopted CAG is 25 years old. His previous owners had him on a seed diet. I have been trying to get him to try fresh foods with little success.

I found that he likes bananas, chicken, bread and some other things. He really won't even try many items. I do give him Harrison's pellets which he will eat sometimes.

I have tried a blend that I get from my bird store. It has dried fruit, pumpkin seed, pellets, peas, etc. But he just picks some items and ignores most.

I am concerned about him not eating enough. So is there a recommendation for a good "seed" mix? I have "seed" in quotes as I realize that seeds are not ideal. But, for now, I would rather see him eat his full so not sue if there is a quality mix of seed, grains and other nutritious foods.

This came highly recommended by a breeder. My gray is 22 and she came to me on a seed only diet iv got her on a chop now and large pieces of veg in a foraging ball. She still really wants seeds so we give her this as well. The seed is triple washed and there is no sunflower seeds in it. There are lots of other herbs and dried fruits and veg in the mix as well.

May I give you my two cents about veggies nd Harrison's?
Harrison's Bird Foods
I feed Harrison's, supplemented by fresh healthy treats. My first, and later, my current avian vet recommended it. My bird loves the pellets now, but to get him converted, my avian vet suggested putting pellets out all day, and putting seeds (his old diet) out for two 15-minute periods a day. That would sustain him but leave him hungry enough to try new stuff. I presume the same technique could be used to get him to eat other healthy stuff, like fruits and vegetables! My guy was eating pellets in a couple of days, and now I can feed a good variety of other stuff, knowing he has the pellets as a basic. Pellets are out all day... fresh treats a few times a day. I also like Harrison's via mail because I never have to worry about out-of-date products. :)
Another couple of ideas...
My ol' man is an athlete and health nut. He actually EATS all the good stuff, so it's always around. I find that tossing various stuff into the food bowls at random is good... the variations and differences seem to stimulate curiosity and attention.
The other idea... if you can stand it (lol) EAT the stuff in front of the birds, yes. That encourages them. I have also found that if my ol' man eats stuff in front of the bird, the bird WANTS it for himself. Kinda a rivalry thing!

Good for you, for being caring and curious!

The other 2 brands of seed-mixes that i highly recommend and that are available at most Petco's and PetSmarts are the Tropimix seed-mixes, which contain not only a highly nutritious and varied mix but also their brand of pellets, called Tropican Granules...and the other one is SunSeed Vita Prima mixes. Both are fortified, contain Probiotics, and most-importantly are available without Sunflower Seeds if you wish, but all varieties contain a varied mix of many different seeds, grains, nuts, legumes, veggies, fruits, etc. My Senegal loves the Tropimix/Tropican Granules/Pellets, and I've actually started feeding him the Tropican Granules instead of the Zupreem Natural pellets that I've been feeding all of my guys for a long time, as he loves them! That's why I really like the Tropimix seed-mix, as it also contains the Granules in it.

The other two that my CAV has recommended to me, but that I've not seen locally and would have to order online, are the Versele Laga brand and the Dr. Harvey brand. From what I've read about both they get great ratings, specifically the Dr. Harvey brand for large birds, which is sold by DrsFosterSmith. I've not used either, but he feeds his Macaw and Grey both the Dr. Harvey brand...
