Hello , I went and met Kira today and took her home. She is awesome ! The weather was so bad and the 2 hour ride I was worried she would be all stressed out windshield wipers going etc . She settled and preened herself during the ride . I am in awe on how much I was able to interact with her tonight she took food she came out of her cage went back in well had to pay that with a peanut < smile > Said hello though very quiet and whistled already . Much more then I had ever expected . What a nice bird . I am tickled pink so happy . Here is a video link not sure if it will work 1 hour after arrival https://www.facebook.com/pia.blackwell/videos/10221604371085430/and our first selfie a after only a few hours home .

Thank you :) She is covered for the night I was on the PC ordering some stuff for her my husband came in to say good night to me . This little quiet voice hello <3 She still not sleeping knocking on the cage here and there . Her diet is horrible the food she came with oh boy mostly corn . I got her the zu preem sensible choice seed to start with. I used to cook crazy corn for Colby he LOVED it so ordered her some and some Zu preem natrual pellets I will grind down and mix in . Little stinker all she took from me was peanuts and a sunflower kernel no banana no apple . Oh she will probably fling the veggies at me tomorrow ,hahahaha . I feel I so lucked out finding her . I will work on her junk food habit a little at the time .

Nice :) good luck with her, im sure you will get her on the right track in no time at all !

No doubt during the 'honeymoon period' she will try and push boundaries, most likely including bite pressure so be prepared to stick to your ground with her..... Are all female CAGs total diva's?

Had a Blue Front Amazon. Now have an African Grey (CAG)
I feel I so lucked out finding her . I will work on her junk food habit a little at the time .

Scooter has been on a mostly seed/nut diet from her previous owners, so I've got to work on her diet. I got some pellet food for her, and the first day was a disaster - she picked all of them out and threw them on the bottom of the cage.

Saturday I got her weekly food ready; cooked pasta with a sprinkle of peanut oil, to keep it from sticking together, shredded kale, cilantro, sliced zucchini, steamed carrot and sweet potato cubes. I broke up the pellets into smaller chunks and stirred it all together, then put it in the fridge to keep ready. Success! Sunday was the first day she got it, and she ate all the pellets, with the rest of her food. I don't know if it's because the flavors blended, the peanut oil, or that the pellets were smaller, but she ate all of it.

Congratulations!! Yay!! I'm so glad you were able to get a Grey and so fast!
Wow, you were truly focused on the mission. She is beautiful and I love her name, very pretty.

It's funny, Levi came home on ZuPreem natural large. He ate them with vigor.
I introduced Harrisons and he stopped eating the ZuPreem. I haven't bought it in years. I recently picked up a bag, just for a change and still nothing. Of all the pellets that I've tried, he really prefers the Harrison's and the Higgins Intune.

Best of luck to you all. Please keep the pictures coming.

good suggestion of the peanut oil :) Since she is a peanut junkie that might work . I made her egg and rice this am and gave her some organic frozen berries ( thawed ) she has not touched them . I steam some veggies try that . Everything is so new for her . She was trying to take a bath in her water bowl . Colby had a big ceramic dog bowl I used to put out for him or a nice spray he sure loved that . I need to go slow she will get her own tubby bowl . She is defiantly not as spooky as I thought she would be . I know some CAG can really freak out with new stuff and you gotta take it oh so slow . By the way she seems to like Elvis :) That's my girl !! I am a Elvis fan . I got music playing most of the day sure hope she not picking up my singing voice hahaha

Hi Tami

well the power of Face book :) All I remembered was the Zu Preem diet when I had my last CAG . I been waiting for a bird to cross my path and when I mentioned it again to my friend that someday a bird will cross my path she said Well you know you have to help that a bit and look around because a bird ain't going to fly into your house . So I agreed and after only a few months I got lucky .

second day with Kira . She really likes my husband he got to scratch her head ! She flew to him regurgitated a piece of food ( oh we know what means ) She did perch on my hand but I am not yet allowed to head scratch . Phone rang as she was sitting on my shoulder she prefers to run up my arm to perch on my shoulder . A cheerful Hello :)She mumbles something I can not understand but I am thrilled that she feels comfortable to make sounds . I made her some 15 bean mix this morning she chowed down on that . I keep introducing veggies she has not touched her green beans nor her carrot sticks . I clipped them to her cage maybe she will nibble . I will introduce all new stuff in the morning because as I understand the Grey forages in the morning and before night . I did end up clipping her wings yesterday because she flew around the house and then hit she does not know the house and I was not going to take a chance her flying into something and hurt herself. I left the two first primary feathers on her so she will still be able to glide and not fall like a rock . I figured better do it now while she is new then later and ruin my bond with her .

Hi there,

Enzo, my female CAG has just started her flirting/loving cycle. This happens twice every year it seems and the first time was just a few months after taking her in, I made quite a long thread about this when i joined the forum.... It may be worth a read just in case it helps to spot and avoid the mistakes i made, i do miss those home made tiny poached eggs though ;)

Kira is doing awesome slowly I get her to eat better food . She eats her pellets Zu Preem Natural with a little water down apple juice . I keep introducing stuff got her crazy Corn made her a birdy receipe from the forum :) So far we have heard her say hello , Hi , pretty bird, mumbles alot we can't yet understand , Oh when my husband who she is in love with takes a drink of something she will make a drinking sound and right after burp LOL She will now step up on my hand from her play pen she is however not as comfortable with me and does not want to step up on my hand from inside her cage . She leaps onto my hubby's hand . She snuggles with hubby the affection she shows him is so sweet .

Haha, Enzo can burp better than i can, she even does a little sigh after doing so. love the water sounds too... She smacks her lips when hungry or the water sound when thirsty. She also taps my fingers as a 'thank you very much for learning my needs' when i give her what she wants.

Sounds like you are all getting on fantastically, so well done. Keep the cuddle sessions short at this time of year though, and scratches/contact to her HEAD only..... When Enzo flirts she tries to get underneath my hand and also lifts one of her wings a little, be wary of this as you dont want to give off the wrong signals to her.

Maybe im just paranoid, but ill share my experience any way.

HI everyone ...Kira has adjusted so well hubby is her favorite I am well her house keeper cook etc :) I have a question since Kira does not want to eat veggies I make her a Bird bread . Last one was the following ingredients 1/2 bag of frozen mixed veggies 1 cup almond flour 1 cup of ground up pellets 2 eggs , little less then 1 tbl spoon of coconut oil a little baking powder ( not sure if it was really needed since my last batch did not have it . Once in pan I garnished with apple sauce and a little bird seed mix . This bread looked so delicious hahaha . She will eat this above anything else even her seed ! She is not eating pellets as much as I like question is can she have more of the bread I give her a little bit in the morning . Is it ok if she will eat mostly the bird bread ? TIA
