Difficulty finding a CAG

It appears that 9 out of 10 sellers of CAG's are dirty rotten scammers. It is a pathetic way for them to steal money set aside for an honest transaction. Zelle, a 3rd party organization that will facilitate a money transfer offers no protection for the seller....NONE. My caveat is to avoid using them, period.

Out of, I lost count, all the suppliers i have been in contact with, the only decent and honest (IMO) is shop in Delran, NJ. From them I have received 3 different prices for a CAG and 2 different shipping charges. But for some reason I trust them. I'm at a loss on where my wife and I can go to actually purchase and have shipped, a CAG to the KC airport for us to pick up. We want a female, less than 2 years old CAG. I'll even drive to get one as long as it is a reasonable distance. We live in the middle of the country so.....

We had a mitered conure for about 15 years so we aren't newbies to the comfort and care a parrot needs but getting one has been frustrating and disappointing to say the least.

Is there a reputable suppler out there that has references etc that is willing to sell us a CAG?

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Welcome to the forums! Follow your instincts and carefully vet the seller for honesty, propensity to properly raise, wean, and ship.

I am not aware of Grey breeders, perhaps other members will share recommendations?

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
Rescues are another potential option---as in, actual rescue organizations. These birds live for so long that getting even a 10-year old is still getting a very young bird...granted, at 10, puberty will have passed.

You might want to re-consider adopting one so young. At just under 2 years old you will be getting one that is just entering puberty which isn't a fun time. Lot's of shelters will have a lot of good older birds. Plus these birds are unpredictable and even if raised really well, your bird might not meet your expectations. If you adopt an older bird you already know what to expect. That being said, it's pretty easy to find birds going through puberty because a lot of people abandon them at that age. Since they are born in the spring, they usually go up for adoption in the late summer some months after turning 2 years old when people get sick of them. They are all ill informed and don't understand why they're bird changes so drastically. They think they got a bad egg and throw them away :( good luck!

I agree- babies are all going to be sweet but then you have to deal with puberty where they often times push away from the person they bonded with initially and change preferences etc--- not saying it isn't something you can't work through (people DO get babies all the time and it is its own experience), but you CAN bond just as closely with a young bird who has already become sexually mature, and then you don't have to deal with all of the puberty drama...It's also super easy to make mistakes with babies or treat them in a specific way that is no longer acceptable when they are adults---lots of people end up getting their feelings hurt and stressing/creating problems that they never expected. I am not saying you can't get a baby (or that there are no perks to babies), but there are a ton of benefits to rescuing a non-baby (it's way more "what you see is what you get" with non-babies)...MOST (but not all) of the scammers are going to be selling babies-- then again, there are "flippers" out there who will deal with older birds for a profit too, but in those cases, the bird usually needs to get out of that situation anyway.

Again-- there are pros/cons to either side (baby vs. non) but I have had great experiences with non-babies, so it is food for thought. Lot's of people assume that babies will have fewer behavioral issues, but that is not the case (it all comes down to your behavior/training/knowledge of bird behavior etc--and it's easier to mess up a blank slate in a lot of cases and there are always "unknowns" when you are dealing with a young bird because they haven't fully developed their adult personality.) Babies definitely will test your patience/relationship when they are no longer babies and that can be very difficult when you have grown accustomed to their past behavior. They have a knack for lulling people into a false sense of "security" during those early years and that is where they are super chill/sweet and people are probably too lax in their behavioral expectations/ expectations for teaching independence etc.

SO, you do you, but if you haven't thought about rescuing, I have nothing bad to say about it. When I first started thinking about getting my bird as an adult, I wanted a baby too, but the more I researched (and looked at cost lol) the more I began leaning toward rescues, and I am so glad that I did...Not because my experiences with babies have been bad, but because I have found that the young ones can be just as good (and it's not like they don't live forever anyway lol). Don't get me wrong-- people can still mess up adult birds, but even a bird with reported "behavior" can be "reformed" with proper treatment in a lot of cases---and tons of rescues don't even have behavioral issues (at least not ones worse than the average bear).

2 umbrella Cockatoos One male named Cooper and female named Baby 1 Little Corella male named Frankie and have 5 Cockatiels three named Male named Pepper, Fiesco for the female and female named Wylie.
Better to adapt and get one that 11 years and older as they when through puberty phase. Babies are hard to raise if you don't have the experience. Some like to by young as they can imprint and flight train easy, but not for most.

Yep you have a lot of scammer that steal money from people, you have to even be-careful on well known breeder sites as they also target those sites as well with pre-order and deposit scams. Same with social media sites. Best is to rescue and even recommend volunteering as you learn behavior and etc and adopt a bird that needs a home and not supporting the pet trade.

We were just asked to take in a 20 yo CAG. We’ve now had her for about 4 months and she adjusted real quick. I think she’s a stinker that just wants to eat my flesh, but she’s in love with my husband. Still so playful. Glad we didn’t get her any younger!

Why don’t you adopt? So many birds need a loving home. Any reputable avian shelter may have a CAG. We adopted and are thrilled with our little guy.

I live in New Jersey and the store in Delran is where i got my beautiful Amazon. It is one of the most well-known stores in the state and I worked directly with the owner Zac when I got my bird. Since I live only an hour with the store, I visited with her several times before deciding she was "the one." I saw the 3 baby African Grey's, they are so cute!! The first time I saw them in the store, their feathers were still coming in so they looked like little balls of fluff. The store has over a hundred birds, cages everywhere, but everything is still clean and organized. They hatch their own babies and also assist to re-home birds that were surrendered. I have been to the store about 5 times and was impressed each time with the staff and how hands on they are with the birds. They really care about teaching them so if you are considering them for your African Grey, you will not be disappointed. I am actually thinking of getting one as well but want an older bird rather than a baby.

Let me know if you have any questions about the store! I was most recently there about a week ago.
