Introducing my two greys

Try aloe spray after a water misting bath. Helps the skin and could make all those pin feathers a little more tolerable. Helps the feathers have a healthier appearance as well. Wishing you success in her getting that cute stumpy red tail back. Ours has been a plucker before (currently has a small
Plucked patch on his neck) and is a major feather chewer. I wish they’d realize how gorgeous they are with all their feathers. Lol

I’m thanking you about the showering thing...I always thought that this changes behavior because it’s affecting the bird’s attitude toward its feathers. But I really don’t think birds are “irritated” by their feathers when they pluck. It’s all behavioral.

So when you mentioned the second aloe spray bath, I’m thinking, you’re giving the bird another reason to go after its feathers.

I AIN’T no expert, but I find the subject fascinating. It’s like a person biting his nails:

It tastes delicious, but done excessively, it does you no good.

this is exactly how i describe feather plucking. It's like the bird equivalent of nail biting. Totally habitual, and we're hoping to break the cycle. We've given her lots of stimulation for in her cage, to keep her occupied, and when she's out her cage, we're just keeping her engaged to distract from the pin feathers in the hope that we may get at least her tail through for now, then we can wait on the chest feather coming back (also pin feathers here, but not so hopeful on getting her to ignore these at the moment)
