We are going to get hit by a hurricane in a few hours and Armando, my congo gray, is going nuts. He doesn't want to be inside of his cage and won't get away from me. He is also preening like a madman. Any ideas to calm him does anyone had a similar experience before a major storm. Right now the weather is perfect but we are expecting to be hit in 6-8 hours. :02::02:

Poor lil guy. If it were me, I would try to get him in his cage and partial cover it, and turn the lights low. Maybe administer some Metacalm if I had any, a small amount, after I cleared that with my vet. GOod luck and stay safe!

I'm hoping you will all be ok. Also parrots pick up on our feelings, so try and project calm.

I have been hit by a cat 1 hurricane, and several tropical storms . My parrots did really well. They all have sleep tents, so they just retreated and hunkered down. Never a peep , even when things were loud and scary.

I hope you will ok and safe. And any power outages are fixed fast.

Just incase make sure nothing else is going in? Anything thst he could have gotten on, or into irate his feathers? Alcohol gel from your hands?

Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
Have you tried playing music with some static and allowing him to bathe? Mine LOOOOOVES music on a record player and wants to take a bath when she hears it. It could mix well with the outdoor sounds maybe?

The above really nails the vast majority of what is going on. Please follow the advise provided
