I haven't done a Bella update for a while so here goes.

The bad first.

From almost fully feathered Bella plucked most of her chest feathers off again. disappointing but not too surprizing. The thing I am surprised about is she has started barbering her newly growing in tail feathers.
Bella molted several of her tail feathers and if I look at the bottom side of her tail feathers I can see shorter red feathers growing in that already have the tips trimmed off.

I have been trying to keep Bella out of her cage for as much time as possible. usually 10:00 am to 3:30 pm . She takes a shower (red butt) with me most days (she is keeping me clean in my retirement). She perches on the door of the cupboard to stand guard over her nest area (she does not spend time in the cupboard unless the doors are fully open so it's not dark in there).
Her latest new words .
Lorito = Spanish for parrot (Bingo says this)
All Good.

Bella likes to ask for a shower by saying "Red butt shower?"
But there is a window of time I have to wait for in order to take a shower so when it's too early I tell her "no, not yet".
The other day we went through this routine .
Bella "Red butt shower?"
Me "no, not yet"
Bella " OK"

cheers and a happy new year to everyone from my Fid's and family to all the PF members.

Pellets is a mix of Zupreem nut blend and Browns Tropical mix.
I think she mostly eats the nut blend.
A handfull of seeds (vita seed when I can get it).
Mixed veggies in the afternoon.
Nuts on occasion.
I need to do better with leafy green stuff. Use to make birdy bread but they stopped eating it.

I think a bigger problem is not sleeping 12 hours straight.
We can cover her but that doesn’t make her go to sleep. As long as we are active she wants to see.

My Yellow nape is the same way. My two green cheek amazons go to sleep when covered and only wake up if disturbed.

But you got to keep in mind she was a plucker from day one with me and she looked much worse when I got her

Sorry to hear about Bella, but happy to hear that she is well in other regards.

Any possibility that Bella can or does get any peaceful nap time during the day? There is no question that sleep during normal periods is much more beneficial. Watch her and if you see her napping, try not to disturb her during those periods.

Our Julio is a professional nap taker.

Some nap’s but she is a light sleeper..
Bingo only cracks an eye open when napping, food prep in the kitchen gets his full attention.

Always nice to get Bella updates, Wade, good or not so good. I feel for you, trying to resolve the feather issues! Never experienced this with any of my parrots, but I know how I would feel.

Will Bella accept any peppers? Pref the hot ones?
