hi friends ...

kasper , my african grey .. since about 2 years

he is very fine
has a regular playing time , eating , sleep

all know that when parrot Regurgitate for you , when see you or when you put him on your hand ... etc
and it is a quite normal and it is a matter of being in sympathy and in love with you .. and my parrot does so sometimes for me :D

but the PROBLEM

even when he alone .. he does so !!!
start with rising one of his foot to the level of his head or even more
then start to Regurgitate and expelling small particles of food
like a tiny balls
and sometime i see it on his cage or on the ground
it is like a game or exercise he does daily

he does this behavior so much ,, several times a day
i real dont understand what is this behavior
is it normal ,, is it a sign of sickness , or just bad behavior
actually when i see it i used to stop him
shall i continue

i wish if someone tell me about this :)

and really a big thanks for you friends

From the sound of your post I do not think this is behavior. When a bird vomits food you need to see an avain vet. Do not seek out advice on the internet as you are risking your bird's health.

as i said .. i used to stop him sometimes

Spiritbird

well , you are right .. i was thinking about that ..
but .. because i did not notice any symptoms of illness so i thought that it may be normal ..
but just let you know , that he is not vomiting ,, i mean i know exactly the difference between vomiting that mainly a yellowish fluid indicating sure sign of illness
and the vomiting or Regurgitation duo to love or expression
just today i notice that he expels out a little bit bigger mass
and i feel that he feels better when he do that

still complicated hhh
i think i really should take him to a Veterinary ..

still waiting others' opinion

MAN, DON'T WAIT ON OPINIONS GET THAT BIRD TO THE VET! Birds naturally hide any illness due to it being a sign of weekness. In the wild the weaker birds get picked off first, so they hide it as long as they can.

It sounds to me like your bird is having trouble digesting some of the food that he is eating or trying to eat. Some may pass, which allows him to continue to be mobile and not appear ill. But then again, WE ARE NOT VETS! So it is just speculation on our part. I've always believed an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. So I would rather spend $100.00 on a vet visit then morn the loss of my friend.

So Please, take him to the vet asap just to be on the safe side.

This sounds like vomiting to me. I have heard that sometimes a bird will regurgitate on a favorite toy or person but, this doesnt sound like whats going on in your case.
Also there is no specific color to determine if this is vomit or not.
You need to take your bird to an avian vet as soon as you can.

i have a blue and gold macaw named "Flash"
my bird also does this but he only does it to me and he will do it right before i get him off his cage, he doesnt do it any other time, so is it normal behavior for someone they have affection for or does he need to be taken to the vet?

I've been following this thread and can't bite my tongue on this one any longer. Not to be rude but it sounds like this is not an urgent issue to you as you seem to be taking the advice as casual. What if your child was displaying fatal symptoms, would you take them "as soon as possible" to the Doctor? I doubt it, you'd probably be in the ambulance holding their hand, why is your fid any different. As mentioned before birds hide their illness very well and in most cases by the time the symptoms are showing it's too late. Sorry I recently lost my African Grey at the hands of someone elses ingnorance and I am still having a hard time coping with the guilt of what I could have done to prevent it. I cannot even imagine how you will feel if this is more serious than you think, you will not be able to live with yourself if you lose your buddy and could have prevented it, trust me! If it turns out to be nothing well then no harm done, you can pat youeself on the back that you acted like a responsible Parront.

I implore that you get off the forum and take your bird to the vet like yesterday!

I could not agree with you more WUV. You especially know what a loss can do to your emotions. Kasper you should have come and gone with the vet already. We are finished with the advice for you and I am now closing this thread. No more game playing.
