Loco's first moult

So lots of people have been talking about cranky birds and moulting lately. Loco my GCC is going through his long first moult at the moment. It seems like it's taking for ever, I think he's loosing and gaining new feathers for about 2 months or so now. Just when all his pins looks gone, BAM, more pins, and LOTS of them.

He even lost two of his main tail feathers, it was interesting to read that they loose flight feathers in pairs, which makes sense. You wouldn't want a lop-sided bird trying to fly hehe.

Loco loves to come in the shower with me and play in the sink. This really helps to relieve his itchy pins and he sometimes likes to have me help him preen too. I'm now pretty good at it without hurting him.

What I have noticed is that his colour has become really vibrent, almost harlequin under light. He's also had a lot more blue come in and new blue patches around his neck. He doesn't look much like a baby bird any more.

What age do they usually go through their first molt?

Kim- around 6-10 months I think!
