Cold after a bath?

not sure what I'd search for to find an answer to this, so I'll just ask, and sorry if it's been asked before.

What do I do with my bird after she has a bath? She feels so cold. D:
She doesn't really seem to mind, and is making all kinds of happy croaks and making a nest out of my hair... so I guess she's fine? :rainbow1:

Many bird guardians use a hair dryer, including me. It is not harmful to the bird or I woud not be using it.

I read that you can toss a hand towel or small blanket in the dryer for a little bit and then wrap them up in it

Not as effective as a hair dryer, but who doesn't love warm laundry?

If they take a bath early in the day when it is warm, I leave mine alone. Shivering is their way of warming up and it is also the best time for them to preen their feathers. Mine love really cold water in their bath and will normally jump right in as soon as I give them fresh water. They will then spend about an hour preening and fluffing their feathers.

If you have a half naked bird that's been plucked and you keep your house on the cooler side you would think differ then to let your bird shiver....

Well, no I do not have a half plucked bird and my bird room is warmer than the rest of my house. Since my birds have bath bowls in their cage, they take baths at different times of the day, but I've never had to dry them unless one gets wet later in the day when I don't think they have enough time to dry before they go to sleep. Then I wrap them in a handtowel and get them as dry as possible before putting them back in bed.

I did not gather from the OP's post that his bird was plucked or his house cold.

I said IF! Not saying you have one or the poster have one. I adopted a half plucked bird! Saying you would think differ if you had one to let it shiver!!! Read it clearly!!

I read the original post correctly and that is what I was responding to, not your post, sorry. Thought we were supposed to stay on topic and since the OP didn't mention bald, I never considered that in my response.

That's no problem!!! I never used a blow dryer until I adopted this half naked bird with dawn feathers. She shivers after bath time, it makes her terrified of bath time. So we started blow dry. Then the male ekkie wants to be blow dry too, he begs for it as you can see from my video. LoL...

Lol, she's not plucked and my house is sitting at about 80 during the day lately (Effing AC...)

She wasn't even shivering, I just assumed that since she was wet she must be cold.
I wound up kind've patting her off with a towel and letting her leech my heat while she preened herself.

Appreciate the input for future reference, though!

Yeah I notice Loco shivers and feels very cold even when our house is nice and warm. I used to try and towel him but he HATES it. He'd rather shiver and dry out. Sometimes if it's cold I use the hair dryer.

Mine freak when they hear the hair dryer so I've never tried it. Kudos to you MikeyTN for adopting your bird. Very lucky bird to have someone take such wonderful care of her.

I seriously thought mine would hate it, but so far the ekkies and my Cockatoo likes it just fine....Haven't tried it on Willie, I think he will freak, he have a tendency to hate stuffs like that....lol

We live in England so hot weather is a bit of a rarity. When Casper has had a shower we put an infra red lamp* on aimed so that he can move in and out of its heat as he wants.
He now tends to shriek at the lamp stored on the shelf when he wants a shower.

*the type for sports injuries/keeping puppy litters warm.

I lightly rub mine with a towel to get off excess water. Then depending on his mood, I either put him under my shirt on my shoulder or in his cage he usually prefers the cage and hops right in and goes to the back. It is warmer in there and when he is dry he starts saying I love you which translates I want out now. LOL
