The breeder that Sabbath got his conure from gave me some wonderful advice. She said never to put down more than 25% as a deposit on a baby and to make sure that the breeder had a health guarantee and a guarantee that even if the bird you put a deposit perished before you got her, you'd get another bird of equal value.
Get it in writing. So you don't get taken for a ride.
Make sure you get to look your baby over really well BEFORE the money changes hands. Get a receipt!
And if for any reason it doesn't feel right, you don't feel comfortable with the breeder, anything at all that makes you question this decision ... Don't do it.
your lucky your so close, the breeder I am going with is at the other end of the continent from me, as shes in florida and I am in alaska.
shes a paying member on sevral sites, has refrences by owners of her birds, and accually has a few people on this forum that have gotten babies from her.
I wish I were only 5 hours away, id be there in a heartbeat.
gratz, and I hope it works out (bring home a baby!)
Now that Im thinking about it I dont like the idea of not seeing the breeder's house. I've found 2 more breeders so I've now narrowed it down to 3 breeders (I dont really want to go to Whitmores. She didnt seem very friendly....)
there are hundreds of breeders out there, take your time, talk to them. I am sure you will move faster then I am, its taken me about 8 years to get to this point in my life, (everything else is impulse, afterall a truck is just a truck) but I want to be sure its the right time, and place for a parrot that will live upto 100 years.
Go with your gut, if it makes you do a dubble take and upsets you in anyway, DONT go to that breeder.
There is only 2 breeders I havent doubted....
Still awaiting email from the breeder but Im not sure they will reply until Tuesday. They are closed Sunday & Monday.
edit: I just found another breeder that isnt as far away. Im awaiting reply from them.
