How to be quiet

Any tips on how to train a sun conure on being quiet? I knew they were loud bird and since his screech is coming out now, it is about time I work on it.

How would you go about teaching him?

Lately I've been doing something along the lines of when he gets loud I put him on the other side of the couch and when he stays quiet for longer then 5 seconds I praise him but once he makes another noise I stop and ignore him again.

You will have to teach yourseld to deal with it. :) Suns are loud, its just who they are. You may not be able to change that.

When the bird gets into his natural loudness you can try to whisper at those times. You cannot change the nature of a bird though. Certain conures are louder than others. Lucky for me GCC is more quiet.

I'm fine with the loudness, it everyone else that I'm worried about :p I told them but they wouldn't listen!

He seem to be better about it, it mostly when he just not getting attention, we made a new game today that seems to quiet him though^_^! The bobing game! He has to copy my bobing of my head.

Actually quite fun.

Pi isn't that loud. Am I just in for it at some point? Is she going to start screaming one day out of nowhere?

She squawks a few times when I first get up in the morning and uncover her cage and she'll squawk every so often if I suddenly come into or leave the room but other than that she's REALLY quiet.

I told my husband after Merlin got settled that they warned the birds @ the pet shop "if you are loud, noone will take you home." lol They are totally different after they start to feel comfortable.

It is not as loud on the computer, but I thought it would give an idea.

That's part of the reason why I don't own a conure anymore. It can be a lot worse! :) my birds are quieter then a conure....

I am so so lucky, Mishka just talks and talks continuously 24/7. When I say he talks 24/7 I am not joking.
LoL Mishka is to busy talking to scream
I honestly don't think I could handle a bird that screams, but that is just me

GCC Louigi AKA "Loopi Lou"
Im not an expert or anything, but when my GCC is throwing a fit usually when he's anxious for me to give him attention, i'll aknowlege that he's there; "hi louie", then go about my business ignoring him and avoiding eye contact, then when im ready to take him out and he's gotten quiet (it usually takes about 5minutes max for him to quiet down), i'll take him out of his cage. Or if he's screaming because unfamiliar ppl are around ill whisper to him that its ok, & cover his cage (usually he'll be quiet as soon as i cover his cage) till they leave.
