Chika, my green cheek conure. She is my first bird.
Yes, bigger is always better, I know that. I have a 30 by 30 by 36 inch cage for my Chika and she loves the room. I like to take her to relatives that live close, no farther than 4 hours away. It's fun for her to meet new people and for me :) But her cage barely fits in the car. It's hard to get the top in because in the trunk, the top of the car slants down and we have to tilt the cage and push it in... Don't worry, she's in a travel cage though! So I have a choice of that cage again, which would mean neither bird could go on trips anymore because we can't fit both in the car and I'm not only bringing one. That cage is $85. There is also a $40 cage that is 18 by 18 by 30 inches. I know someone with that cage and they have a green cheek in it, and it's an okay size. They have three or four perches, toys, and a Happy Hut and their GCC can move around comfortably. If I bought that one, then I could take both on trips. I would just feel bad because of how much smaller his cage would be. Of course my conures have over 20 hours of out of cage time a week. During school they are out for around an hour a day and then each weekend they're out for over 8 hours and a lot of days they're out over 10 hours! So yeah, they wouldn't be cooped up in their cages all day long. My dad doesn't like the big cage, so he may not let me get the big one, but when I told him the cage was the one our friend has, he said that's "solitary confinement," jokingly because we call our GCC's cage a "Barbie Dreamhouse." So I'm torn between the large cage that would mean my birds couldn't go anywhere with me, or the smaller cage that is still okay and would let me bring both birds. My current GCC likes other people, only when I'm around and I get her off the cage. She has made my friend with the green cheek in the cage I am considering bleed, and has bitten two relatives quite hard so she wouldn't get much interaction while I'm gone...
I was thinking of buying the large cage, then earning money for two of the smaller cages as "homes away form home." But then I'd have 6 cages for only two birds--regular, home away from home, and travel. That would make my dad mad, though, soo.... What do you think I should do?

Oh, I forgot three reasons for the smaller cage:
- I have a ton of giftcards to places I don't care for and you can register them on Amazon for 100% of the cost. The smaller cage is on Amazon.
- I will have $40 towards the new bird's vet bill.
- I'm earning my money slowly, and I could adopt the bird sooner. There is a specific clutch I'm looking at from the breeder I got my first green cheek from, then one bird from PetCo that has truly chosen me. He absolutely loves me... The clutch, I'm not sure how many are even left. I have to email the breeder again to see.

My lovely little Black Cap Conure, Lucy (in the sky with diamonds) <3
I'd say go with the bigger cage because it's what's right. I had lucy home for the weekend for the first time this weekend and I put her in my old reptile cage. Probably not the best idea, but it sufficed for the night (she was out all day long) have you looked into a super pet cage that's maybe meant for a rabbit or something? I've considered that for awhile...
