How to train sun conure to be more independent?

Every time I walk away from my sun (for no more than 2-3 minutes at a time, usually it's just to grab something real quick), she screams. It's not a noise problem, I just don't know how to get through to her that I'll be back in less than a minute. If she's screaming when I'm done getting what I went to get, I wait till at least 5 long seconds after she stops screaming to walk to her. I usually stay out of her sight so I know she isn't stopping just because she sees me. If she screams before 5 seconds, I wait for her to finish and start counting again. It seemed to work for the first few days but now it's not. Is there something else I can do? I know sun conures scream, but screaming because I leave doesn't seem right.

Another thing is: she likes to chew things. I have several chew toys for her, like rope toys and wooden beads and stuff, but she insists on chewing on things she's not supposed to be chewing on. I always catch her before she gets too far, but then I grab her beak and tell her "NO," and she starts toward whatever she was chewing again. What's the best way to train her? Thanks! :)

Keep on enforcing good behavior and don't reinforce the bad! Lucy screams sometimes when she wants out but we whisper to her and each other so that she tries to figure out what we're saying by being quieter.

as for chewing, we tell Lucy no and then give her something that she is allowed to chew on. Sometimes we give her a rotini noodle (uncooked) as a treat when she picks to chew on her toys and not ours (ps3 controllers... wires.... laptop keys lol)

Hmm great ideas!! I'll definitely try out the whispering and the pasta sounds like a gret chew toy/treat for her.

Also forgot to mention in my original post: when she screams I whistle back to her so she knows I'm there, but she keeps screaming anyway.
