"Apple" Yellow-sided Green Cheeck Conure
Hello again! So the day has finally come and I will be picking up my Conure later today. I want to start off on the right foot and want to have everything ready for my little guy. He is not my first Parrot but is my first Conure. He will be coming with his cage along with toys and other belongings (not sure exactly what is included) so my question is, is there anything in particular I should definately have on hand when I bring him home? I plan on buying him a BUNCH of new toys and use them to encourage interaction with me and keep him entertained. I know his favorite fruits are Apple and sweet potoe (hence his name, Apple) so will definately have those on hand. :D "Hey little buddy, you want a peice of apple? You have to love me first!" Lol! Of course I know it's not going to be that easy especially knowing that he is quite attached to his current owner and HATES her daughter (which is why she is giving him a new home). Any suggestions as to what type of toys? What's your Conures favorite thing to play with? I was told he loves to play with the little plastic things that are used to keep the packages of bread closed. Not the twist ties. Sorry about all of the questions, just REALLY excited and anxious. :D

Make sure you bring him home in a carry cage, keep it dark for him so he doesn't get scared. make sure you have paper to line the cage, food, millet (if he eats millet) and LOTS of patience. What kind of conure is he?

He is a Yellow-sided Green Cheek (pictured on my avatar :D) and just turned one year old.

I need to ask if he will be coming with his food so I know whether to go out and buy some or not.

I have newspaper so I have that covered, just need to make sure he doesn't try to eat it, lol!

He will be coming with a carrying case so I will make sure and take a towel to keep him comfortable. :)

I do have another bird (Parakeet) that I suspect might be ill, well not ill but a carrier of something. I have another thread about that. He is mostly being kept outside and isn't handled, what should I do to make sure there is no cross contamination? The weather has been pretty warm so I can keep the Parakeet outside over night with a towel draped over the cage, to be safe? He does camp out sometimes, lol!

well I'm late on this one lol

just make sure the birds are safe from any intelligent predators like cats, snakes, curious opossums, and raccoons especially. they can unlock a bird cage in a matter of seconds once they figure it out

Haha! No worries! Well, fortunately the cage that was given to me with him has bolts on it. You have to slide the bolt up, to the side, then pop it open... It's really hard to explain but if you look it up on Petsmarts website it the one with the clear acrylic bowfront door with a play top. It's also the smaller one, 299 one. :D Very very hard for something to break into it, even I struggle to get it open, lol!
