I went to a bird breeders website and it had posted the prices for the conures. All were $300 but the pattagonian conure was more expensive by $60. Why is this?

I'm new here but with my personal experience in the "pet trade" there are a few factors that come into play, beauty, supply, and demand... If they are SUPER beautiful the price is higher which leads to popularity and then demand. Certain types of species of animal are a bit harder to produce in captivity therefore being much less of them available than other species. I hope you understand what I am trying to get at, lol! Even I don't understand what i'm trying to say sometimes. :D Could it be this way with this type of bird? I'm not experienced enough to say (or at all).

They are more expensive, mainly due to how many there are. I've only seen one 1 time in my 13 years on earth (haha), 7 of them being around birds every week. I've been trying to get my hands on these guys, but can never find any!!! Out of all the breeders in Southern California, and there are a lot, I haven't been able to find one that has bred them!

Patagonians are apparently renowned for making good pets, which may increase the price. They are also the largest of the conure species, and breeders like to charge by the gram (so to speak) :)

Their rarity may be related to their lack of color found in so many other conure species, which then makes their price a little higher. Kind of a catch-22.

There's a hand tame pair for sale locally to where I live. They're going for about 1200$CDN for the pair.

They are one of the more uncommon types of conures and much larger as well.

I have one, they are hard to find for sure, I stumbled on Samba (his name) by pure accident, his previous owner left him at the local pet-store while I was shopping for bird food. I felt terrible for the little guy and the pet store had no clue on how to deal with a parrot since they specialized in Reptiles.
Needless to say he came home to our house same day, got a huge cage, ton of toys, and gets spoiled rotten.
They are gentle giants, they are Super Loud, they are extremely smart, need a big cage, tons of attention, super sweet, and have great personality.
I had to put an extra lock on his cage to keep him in and out of the cage. But if you can deal with a loud and attention loving bird, then they are perfect. I will see if I can post some pics in the coming days.

I'd love to see pictures! I haven't done a ton of research on them but this little baby (not weaned, still tons of down feathers) was super quiet, perhaps it was just that individual haha

I will upload some pictures tonight been super busy around the house after work. If you looking at getting one I truly wish you good luck, they are terrific birds I am no expert but I love this little guy, always happy, a clown, and sure to put a smile on my face. (If I could just get him to stay on the play perch things would be perfect, he didn't come clipped and I still didn't have the heart to change it..... but soon, sooon.)

Oh he's gorgeous! <3 I love the subtle colors ^^ Perhaps when I'm more experienced I'll look into bigger birds, Lucy is my first bird so I'm taking things slowly. I'm still in college too lol

I don't know if anyone is looking but it appears there is a breeder here in Texas that does breed Patagonian Conures. I haven't been there or ordered from there but just in case anyone is interested.
