Alex has developed quite a sharp beak, to the extent that he's nips feel more like bites. It's like a knife! He's managed to draw blood while playing gently!

His beak is narrower to the top on the bottom mandible, kind of like the top layer has worn off or been chipped away, alot like this macaws http://s1.hubimg.com/u/1209724_f520.jpg which makes it twice as sharp. I'll be trying to get photos of his beak up asap, camera is out of action.

First off, is a beak with that kind of wear normal?
Second, any way to remedy this? He gets lots of wood toys to chew on, but they don't seem to help blunt his beak. I would be very keen to NOT have to trim his beak. :D

An avian vet can file it down for you, or it seems that cuttlefish bones also help a bit. If you don't live near an avian vet like me, if your careful, you can use an Emory board on it so that it's a bit better. I've also heard for macaws and larger parrots that a dremel tool works in dire situations. Though as always, a vet is the best solution.
