Hi everyone and thank you in advance for your responses. I just adopted a GCC about a week ago and I wasn't expecting to be able to tame him in this short timeframe but he is petrified of all movement, whenever i stand up from where I'm sitting he clings to the back of the cage until I stop moving. And dont even get me started with when i change his food and water. I was just wondering if this is normal behavior for an 8 month old conure and i was also wondering when to expect him to not be so scared. I sit by his cage for hours a day and there is still no improvement! Any input?

A little bit of history would be helpful. At a guess i would say that your little friend hasn't been hand reared. Maybe parent reared & was in an aviary.

It will take a lot of time & patiences for you to get this little guy to trust you. So i would suggest you take 1 day at a time & take it ever so slowly. That said you have only had him for a week so he is still settling in.

I can remember i adopted a 18 year old 28 Parrot that was the same as your bird it took approx 6 months for that bird to be calm enough for me to feed him without flapping around the cage like a mad bird. But he was originaly wild caught I could never let him out of the cage, he had never been handled. But he would take food from my hand & actually eat baby bird formula from a spoon. He would see me with all the young birds so he got to trust me to a certain extent.

I don't know the history of this bird but the only way forward is patient and time and don't force him. If he is scarent when you come to the cage you have to take steeps away until you reach the comfortzon

a little suggestion - hang a towel over part of the cage so your conure has somewhere he can retreat to out of sight and feel secure. It worked wonders for me. A nice high perch, and a small covered area in the back corner seems to give them somewhere to hide - they can get stressed out when they are nervous and open to 'attack' from all sides and especially above.
It may not immeadiatly help with your taming but it should help your little guys well being so you can move on with the process...
