Hi Everyone

I have 2 green cheek conures (1 and half years old) male (zorba) and female (cleo) had them for about a year and had no problems with them. There sort of tame them fly to me and land and sit on my shoulders and arms, but they dont like to be stroked or held and if you try they will bite.

They have a big cage which they can fly from side to side and have enough perches and toys to chew and jump around on. I let them out every day unless i cant for some reason but its normaly rare. So they get enough exercise (mind and body) and they are on a good diet.

But for some reason the boy has bent, damged and pull out his tail feathes and his girlfriend is helping too. I'm worried cos i don't know what it is. Is this cos he might have broken them somehow or somthing to do with molting. I havent taken to the vet yet cos i don't live close to one and i dont have a car.

Please send advice and thank you all that send some

Maybe I can help as i also have a pair of crimson conures & the female is in the same condition. Do you notice your male climbing around the cage constantly or hanging from the top of the cage. I know with my female she runs up the side of the cage then tries to go backwards down & she damages her tail on the wire.

My young male eclectus lands awkward & has a shocking looking scruffy tail. I am hoping that once he goes through his yearly molt he'll grow out a new tail & not be so clumsy.

Hopefully your little guy will grow his new tail when next he molts. The only other thing i do know that Vets will do is pull all the broken tail feathers out so that all new feathers will grow out together & the tail will be much stronger.
