Hey all, just out of curiosity, I was wondering if your conure is a lefty or a righty when they hold food.

My Franklin is definitely a Lefty...I've NEVER once seen him hold food in his right foot.

How 'bout yours?

Should make a poll choice for both, because even though im not sure bout my conure my budgies are both and I maybe can recall pepe switching foots when he wants to shake the moisture off or when somethings a little hot

Nah its completely fine, don't change a thing!(= Just mentioning, heck I bet there are who can hold food with both hands at same time;^0
If they are both' the owners can post their funny stories and such, no problem at all.
To fully answer your question: Pepe my conure is both, Marie is both, and Jerry is righty tighty, and Wazoo is unknown or unsure she has never held food on her foot.

We were told by our breeder that left-side dominant is the more common in birds. Max and Jade are definitely left-footed. Ruby is right-footed.

Like most birds, Alex uses both feet for things, but his left foot is dominant. He will usually hold food with his left, and always steps up by holding out his left foot. :)

Pico, gender unknown, is a hand-fed Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure, born 2015.
Pico holds food with right foot, and steps first with right foot.

Jacob the blue and gold macaw
I voted but for a blue and gold macaw before I realized I was in the conure thread. Conures are actually in the macaw family, they sure act alike in my experience too. Jacob holds everything with his left foot and even prefers to shake a paw with his left, he holds foot toys with his left, he's a lefty just like me. :)

That's right, macaws and conures are in the one family but please don't name it "macaw family" - this sounds like conures were type of macaws what isn't truth;)

My conure also is left-footed like most parrots. Somewhere is simillar poll about it

The Rickeybird, 38-year-old Patagonian Conure
I have tried studiously for ages to answer this question, but just about the time I think I have an answer, I don't. So I guess that the Rickeybird, who is a Patagonian Conure, uses both feet!
