Maxx & Emma -Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conures (Male & Female)
I have read tons of info before I got my GCC, and most all of them mentioned the fact that they are probably the quietest of all the Conures. So just how quiet is yours?

Maxx came to me as a 11 week old hand tame, hand raised GCC. I got the pick of 7 GCC's and Maxx basically came to me, and wouldn't leave. He has never once bit me, and has never failed to step-up when asked. Can he be a brat, he sure can, but being he is so young I can overlook many things.

Now when it comes to noise, I have been totally amazed. Except for a few times where he has totally lost it, Maxx is not noisy at all. If he sees me going into the kitchen and he is not along for a ride he will do a quick Squawk, Squawk-Squawk, Squawk. and that is it.

When I first started taking him outside, and I had to leave for work he did lose it and squawk for 15 minutes or so, my other half ignored him, and he has since stopped that.

The only other time he lost it was when a dump truck came down the alley and he went nuts for again 15 minutes then stopped.

Maxx's cage is full of toys, he loves to play, and I love to give him things that encourage play. He has toys he can work to get treats, toys to play on, his swing, toys made of wood and paper for him to destroy, a boing he can climb up and down on, and foot toys he can throw around and make noise.
He enjoys his cage and likes to be in it.

Given that he has LOTS of time with me and a place he feels comfortable in, I think leads to his not being a very loud bird.

Is this common, How are your GCC's?

Yes they are the quiet ones of the conure group. My Cricket is only loud when he either wants out of the cage or it is bedtime when the lights go out.

River is also only noisy once in a while. When we first get up, because he wants out. He's quiet until he hears the alarm clock, then lets out a yell. And like Cricket, makes a little noise when going to bed. He also yells when the dogs bark, but for the most part he's pretty quiet. :)

Petrie will make soft chirps to me in the morning when I let the dog out. He will also make a few when I get home in the afternoon. He really goes crazy when music or a movie is playing. He will occasionally give a few squawks at bedtime as well. Syd, my cockatiel, is 10 times noisier than he is!!

My GCC is quiet by himself, and a screamer around other birds. It's amazing how he can go from an almost silent bird to one of the noisiest in the bunch, but it's also fun to see how excited he gets that he wants to make noise with them.

If Jendays are supposed to be far noisier than Green Cheeks then all you GCC parents must have absolutely silent birds :D

Guido CAN get noisy but there is ALWAYS a reason for it. Usually it is because my daughter has brought up her 'tiels and they are talking and he is just answering them the only way he knows. Other than that he really is a fairly quiet bird once he got acclimated to his new home.

Usually quite as a mouse, except for an occasional short tantrum when he wants to be let out (and even those aren't too bad). More recently, he's learned that he gets attention when he says "Give me kiss!" So now when he wants to be let out of his cage, he'll usually scream "Give me kiss! Give me kiss!" lol.

RIP Charlie, Green Cheek Conure,
Lelu, parrotlet and
Poe the budgie.
well, I have a noisy guy then. Charlie is always practicing new ways of yelling "Charlie!" and "Good Buddy Buddy!" when we get home. If we are not in the room, he's carrying on and on as if he's being tortured. This will go one for at least 15 minutes. We've taught him to whistle to us and we'll only respond to that but he still carries on. If he's out or he's playing around in his cage, he's pretty quiet although a few times a day he has to attack his surrogate enemy in his cage (a treat cup that is also his best friend - its shaped like a beer mug and he also likes to hang out under it and scratch his head) which involves a lot of loud yelling and squawking. :) We don't mind, though, he is funny with his talking and there's no one who is really disturbed by him. Our neighbor sometimes hears him yelling "bye Charlie!" out the window which is his standard greeting/goodbye to mailmen and people on the street.

Apple is a VERY quiet bird when he is with me all day but if he gets bored he'll squawk for a bit, I ignore it and when he's nice and quiet I go ahead and pick him up. He lives to sing along to music and new noises but won't call back to my neighbors LOUD cockatie, lol! I LOVE his chattery little noises every morning when I take him out. :D

I dont think my cinn gcc is "normal". I hardly ever hear him. If I am close to the cage occasionally I can hear him muttering quietly to himself, but you really have to listen (once or twice a week). Ocassionally he make a croak (frog) sound (probably once a day) and very rarely a 'hisssst" sound (once a fortnight). Thats it! His cage is between 2 chattery budgies, and a flock calling tiel. Maybe he just cant get a word in, LOL.
I had expected him to be louder/noisier than this. Should I be concerned? He appears healthy, eats well (except very picky with fruit and veg), loves out of cage time, not bitey or am I just lucky that I have a quiet boy?

our little girl is not loud....however, she is loud when she hears our dogs..i thought that a gcc would be loud from what i read. this is not true. our cockatiels are so loud and they express themselves. our gcc is only 5 months old.

2 GCCs - Jinx & Bonsai
My two are typically pretty quiet. They have each other, and two of any same-species bird will be noisier (I've read that's because they "speak the same language", haha), but even together they are not very loud. They'll make some noise when the alarm clock goes off in the morning, and a few times a day they will play chase games with each other and sometimes roll around on the cage floor together, happily squawking all the while, and they'll purr softly when preening each other. But their voices aren't too loud and they don't sound off very often at all.
