2 GCCs - Jinx & Bonsai
I've been researching and studying breeding and have just acquired 2 breeding pairs of GCCs. I've got them set up with their boxes and whatnot with the full spectrum lighting on a timer. I've read varying opinions on the length of time to set the timer for. Should I follow natural daylight around here of longer light in summer and shorter in winter or 12 light and 12 dark as you would with a pet?

Also, when do you experienced breeders typically pull for hand-feeding? I've read never before 3 weeks because of the added nutrients from the mother's crop, and typically between 4 and 5 weeks.... though the bands should be put on around 2 weeks. (Are the parents okay with that?? Seems like they'd be mad about you taking their babies and putting them back for more feeding. I worry they'd harm the chicks after such an episode.) What's your experience with pulling at varying ages? And there seems to be a disagreement about pulling all at once vs. pulling in twos. Does it just depend on the parents?

And if anyone has any tips or advice on any other part of the whole process, I'd love to hear it from someone with first hand experience!!

The very proud owner of a new baby sun conour !
I don,t think you sound as if u are ready too hand rear any bubs from this first clutch ,
l don,t wan,t to up set you but the first bird that l ordered from a professional breeder ( hand reared ) was to be picked up by me at the end of that week , on the Monday bird good Thursday bird dead , & he had reared birds for 20 plus years !
So if l were u for this time let the birds do it & u should find a person who has lots of expertise this way it will be better for u & better for the birds !
I truly hope this was not to forward but u do sound very new to all this !
Cheers !

Thanks for the input... The two in the photograph are not my breeders, but my pets. They are beautiful though. =) I have hand-fed and cared for new babies before, but I haven't dealt with the parents and the pulling, and so I'm trying to get as much info on that end of it as I can before they get ready to go to nest.
