Hi , I just bought a yellow sided conure from a breeder about a month ago. I got a bag of seed along with him but I also bought tropican pellets for him to eat . I mix the two together and I started running out of seed. I was wondering what kind of seed brand do I buy ? I bought a bag of seed that was for Cockatiels, I also bought another 2 bags of seed designated for cockatiel. Is there a problem buying those seeds? They have sunflower seed in them and I didnt see a specific seed bag for conures or small parrots.:yellow1:

Hi have you tried Volkmans seed? It is a great seed with no sunflower seeds. Sunflower seeds have almost no nutritional value, it's like offering your bird potato chips. Why are you giving seed? A good pellet diet is better with a little seed offered a couple of times a week as a treat. Offer your conure a good pellet diet and lots of greens and veggies and fruits with only seed as a treat a couple times a week. Good luck!

Both of my conures were on a very junky seed diet. I switched them both over to pellets. They enjoyed the smaller sized pellet that you'd feed a cockatiel. Try offering him more pellets than seed. My guys rarely get seed. They eat only pellets and fruits and veggies. I get them fruits and veggies from a bird store and find a variety of dried kinds for them. It's not very expensive to buy. Less than $20 and it'll last me at least 4-6 weeks. One of them also eats whatever veggies the humans in the household happen to be consuming that day. My sun likes dried and dehydrated veggies/fruits. Try a little bit of everything with your little buddy until you figure out what he likes. You'll have a happy, healthy pellet and veggie eating bird soon enough!

From what I've heard, captive birds aren't supposed to have that much seed because they aren't as active as they would be in the wild. Seeds have a lot of fat in them, which is not ideal. Pellets are designed to provide a more balanced diet. It's also important to substitute with fresh fruits, veggies, and a variety of other bird safe foods.

I free feed Puck Harrison's organic pellets, and I supplement with fruits and my own food (excluding the foods they shouldn't have, of course). He seems pretty happy to just eat off my plate, but I got him his own dishes for when my boyfriend is over, because he thinks it's weird. XD

I have a cat that eats at the table with us lol he even wears a little bib and has one of the extra chairs at the table especially for him because he'd always beg anyway. I wish my birds would eat with me when i actually want to share with them. They won't :( it'd be so cute. If I'm snacking on something they'll steal with from me but that's about it.

I got my YSGCC switched over to Roudybush Crumbles within a couple weeks. He gets seed in the Birdie Bread I make him, only time he gets seed. He loves his fresh fruit and veggjes.

Treats are Nutri-berries, Hemp seed, and dried fruits.

I would not purchase from a breeder that does not wein the chicks to pellets. If more people would do this we would not have so many seed eaters.
